Dona Mae Neu, 96, formerly of Breda, passed away March 26, 2025 in Rocklin, California.
Dona Mae was born January 3, 1929 in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence (Snooky) and Laura (Damm) Bruning. She attended St. Bernard’s High School and worked at Fareway in Carroll. In January 1948, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, she married Jerome Neu of Roselle. They were blessed with two daughters, Deborah and Pamela. On April 1, 1959, Jerry and Dona moved their family to California where Jerry and his brothers opened a construction company. They resided in Santa Clara until Jerry’s passing in 2017. In 2021 Dona moved to Sacramento to be close to her daughter and resided at Ansel Park Assisted Living where she was the life of the party–known as the Gambler. She will always be remembered for her friendliness and laughter.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Christopher Catholic Church in San Jose, California, on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11:30 a.m.
Left to celebrate Dona’s life are her children Deborah Allen (Dave) and Pamela Rogers (David): cherished grandmother to Jason Allen, Tiffani Pratali (Peter) and Nicolle Bradshaw (Scott): precious great-grandmother to Gino Anthony Pratali. She is also survived by Edna Mae Wuebker of Arcadia and California in-laws Earl and Jeanne Neu, Darrell and Patsy Berg, Kenneth Neu and Wilma Whaley, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Delmar Bruning along with brothers and sisters-in-law Marita Bruning, Vivian and Norbert Hulsing, Paul Wuebker, LaVern and Arleen Neu, Billy and Jackie Neu.
