Dennis Wiederin

Dennis Wiederin, 87 of Carroll, died Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Prairie Gate Care Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2026 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder. Music will be by Nancy Lemker and the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Choir. Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Zachary Hagedorn, Jacob Hagedorn, and Nick Diver. Gift Bearers will be Sarah Diver, Jennifer Snyder, Megan Schreck, and Claire Barfield. Eucharistic Minister will be Julie Wiederin. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jim Daley, Brian Diver, and Gary Kirke. Casket Bearers will be Alex Wiederin, Zachary Hagedorn, Jacob Hagedorn, Nick Diver, Ryan Diver, Trey Snyder, Brian Schreck, and Cortez Barfield. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. The casket will be moved to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Friday, June 19, 2026 where additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Croix Hospice or Kuemper Catholic Schools. Online memorial donations may be made at https://kuemper.org/donate-now Dennis John Wiederin was born on November 30, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa the son of Carl and Rosina (Staiert) Wiederin. He grew up north of Carroll and graduated in 1956 from Mt. Carmel High School. Upon graduation he worked for Witt Flooring in Bettendorf, Iowa. On October 25, 1958, Dennis was united in marriage to Darlene Veronica Maun in Auburn, Iowa. They moved to the family farm where he helped his Dad farm and raise livestock and he also continued to work in the flooring business. In the mid 1980's he joined IBP Inc. and this new position took him to Sigourney, Iowa where they lived until they returned to Carroll in 2006. Dennis loved agriculture and sports with a passion. He loved playing basketball and softball and enjoyed coaching his kids in youth softball and baseball. Dennis loved and followed the teaching of his beloved parents. Dennis lived for family, faith and community. With his beloved wife, Dennis adored his children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nothing made him smile more than spending time with his children and their families. The love was reciprocal - Dennis was so engaged, attentive, and involved with everything his family offered. Dennis lived every day by example. He was a loving and caring man to family, friends and acquaintances. Dennis was a devout Catholic and by example showed the value of what devout faith brought to a joyful and appreciative life. Dennis along with Darlene were tireless supporters of community and charity with both time and treasure...to mention a few...Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Parish, Kuemper Catholic High School, and St. Jude's. Dennis spent a lot of his time cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He was a very loyal fan. Dennis is survived by his children: Christine (Jim) Daley of Council Bluffs, Michael (Julie) Wiederin of Carroll, Debra (Brian) Diver of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Sue (Gary) Kirke of West Des Moines; his grandchildren: Jenny (Trey) Snyder, Alex (Meg) Wiederin, Megan (Brian) Schreck, Sarah Diver, Nick (Grace) Diver, Ryan Diver, Zachary (Mandy) Hagedorn, Jacob (Peyton) Hagedorn, and Claire (Cortez) Barfield; his great-grandchildren: Archer Snyder, Oakley Snyder, Banks Wiederin, Wells Wiederin, Wrenley Schreck, Jaxson Hagedorn, Hudson Hagedorn, Weston Hagedorn, Thea Barfield, and Tatum Barfield; his siblings: Eugene (Marcia) Wiederin of Carroll, Eileen (Maurice) Lenz of Decorah, Mark (Cindy) Wiederin of Clive, Joan (Lanny) Goetzinger of Sioux Falls, SD and Pat (Lynne) Wiederin of Carroll; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marlene (Mike) Vanderheiden, Patty Smith, and David Maun; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Darlene in 2026; his parents-in-law, John and Ann Maun and Cleora and Ed Gries; Darlene’s aunt and uncle, Ralph and Margaret Rauch; his sister-in-law, Maxine (Richard) Bauer; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Smith and Kirk Rauch.
