Dean Patrick Mitchell, age 53, of Carroll, Iowa, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, at his residence of an apparent heart condition.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M., Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Boekelman. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. The casket will be taken to the church at 9 A.M. Wednesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. The lector will be a niece, Sarah Bowman. Gift Bearers will be Dean’s siblings, Sherry Bolton, Patrick Mitchell, Jeff Mitchell, and Jana Harding. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir with Leroy Moten as soloist. Eucharistic Minister will be Mike Bolton. Casket Bearers will be Patrick Mitchell, Bill Heller, Jeff Mitchell, John Roth, Mike Bolton, and Tom Bolton.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 P.M. Tuesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Tuesday by Holy Spirit Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church in Dean’s name.
Dean was born on January 26, 1958, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Patrick and JoAnn (Ohl) Mitchell. He graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1976. From 1977 to 1989 Dean made his home in Coon Rapids where he was employed by the Garst and Thomas Seed Company. He then returned to Carroll to make his home and was employed for a short time by the Carroll Today Newspaper. Dean was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and watching sports on television.
Survivors include his two sons, J.D. of Iowa City and Luke and his wife Lisa and their son Micah of Iowa City; two sisters, Sherry Bolton and her husband Mike of Glidden and Jana Harding of Mesa, Arizona; three brothers, Patrick Mitchell and his wife Wanda of Des Moines, Barry Mitchell and his wife Cindy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jeff Mitchell of Gilbert, Arizona; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his grandparents, Thomas and Amelia Mitchell and August Ohl and Annette Ohl-Ransom.
