Born on September 17, 1965 at Carroll, Iowa, Dan was the son of Joseph and Catherine (Snyder) Vanderheiden. He grew up in Carroll, and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1984. After graduation Dan lived in Dallas, Texas for four years, before returning to Carroll.
On May 21, 1994 Dan was united in marriage to Monica Greving at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple later separated. Over the years Dan worked at Farner-Bocken, Culligan, and then became self-employed. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle, being a jokester, tinkering, especially on fans and lamps, but most of all Dan loved being a dad.
Left to celebrate Dan’s life are his children: Curtis Vanderheiden of Platte, South Dakota, Dezeray Vanderheiden of Carroll, and Caleb Vanderheiden at home; his mother: Cathe Vanderheiden of Carroll, siblings: Jan (Ramiro) Jimenez of Mahopac, New York, James (Mary Ann) Vanderheiden of Omaha, Nebraska, and Tina (Lee) Pawlowski of Gann Valley, South Dakota; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other extended relatives.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Joe Vanderheiden, twin brothers in infancy, and his maternal, and paternal grandparents.
