Crowley Spindler, age 85, of Carroll, Iowa, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday by St. Lawrence Parish. Visitation will resume at 2 P.M. Wednesday at St. Lawrence Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church in Crowley’s name. Mr. Spindler was born on December 14, 1922, at Galva, Iowa, the son of Louis and Alice (Murray) Spindler. He graduated from Galva High School in 1940 and then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. On March 18, 1944, he was married to Marilyn Shea at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. Mr. Spindler entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in March 1944 and served as a Pilot and Pilot Trainer based in Texas and California. He was honorably discharged in September 1945 at the rank of Second Lieutenant. Following military service he farmed in the Galva area. In 1971 the family moved to Carroll and he began his career as a District Auditor for the State of Iowa Department of Revenue. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Carroll American Legion. Mr. Spindler enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, and his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Spindler of Carroll; five children, Ed and Sherri of Greeley, Colorado, Jim of Minneapolis, Minn., Bill and Sue of Cherokee, Tom and Pam of Cresco, and Kathleen and Duane of Omaha, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marge Mohr.
