Clara Hoffman, age 82 of Carroll, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Lector will be Alan Neaderhiser. Gift Bearers will be Louise Kennebeck, Maxine Potter, Judy Neaderhiser, Makayla Potter, and Hailey Potter. Music will be by organist Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Communion Ministers will be Larry and Bev Hoffman and Charles Potter. Casket Bearers will be Bernard Uckelman, Dale Hoffman, Alan Neaderhiser, Matthew Neaderhiser, Charles Potter, and Andy Potter. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Friday followed by a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by Holy Spirit Parish. Visitation will resume at 8:30 A.M. Saturday at Holy Spirit Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church in Clara’s name. Clara was born on June 9, 1930, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Renze) Bekehermes. She attended Holy Angels School in Roselle and graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll. Clara and Walter J. Hoffman were united in marriage on April 26, 1949, at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Carroll and the couple made their home at the southwest edge of Carroll. Clara raised their family and for more than 35 years was employed by the Hot Lunch Program at Kuemper High School retiring as the Cafeteria Manager. Clara enjoyed her family, crocheting, needle point, embroidery, quilting, playing cards, cooking, baking, and gardening. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Parish Ladies Guild.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Bev) Hoffman of Springfield, Ill., Louise (Verlin) Kennebeck of Carroll, Maxine (Charles) Potter of Omaha, Nebr., Dale Hoffman of Carroll, and Judy (Alan) Neaderhiser of Omaha, Nebr.; five grandchildren, Brian (Lisbeth) Hoffman, Amy Hoffman, Emily Hoffman, Andy (Stacy) Potter, and Matthew Neaderhiser; three step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Mary Theresa Hoffmann of Arcadia, Ida Hoffmann of Carroll, and Marilyn Hoffman of Carroll.
Clara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Hoffman, in February 1998; her parents; a brother, Joseph Bekehermes; and a sister, Caroline Bekehermes.
