Chris Urszan, 67 of Glidden, died early Friday morning, August 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Lector and Eucharistic Minister will be Dawn Cavanaugh. Gift Bearers will be Ray and Marjorie Hacker. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Lindsey Shriver, Sarah Schagt, Ashley Schulz, and Dave McCollumn. Casket Bearers will be: Chris Werner, Joe Shriver, Ryan Schagt, Steve Hall, Justin Heires and Chad Patrick. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery north of Lidderdale with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by Holy Spirit Parish. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. on Thursday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Chris Urszan was born on September 12, 1944 in Germany. He lived in the home of Ann and Herman Heires of Carroll as a teenager. He then joined the United States Navy where he served 35 years, stationed in numerous countries. Chris served on the U.S.S. Kittyhawk during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy in June of 1988 and held several jobs in the San Diego area. Chris then returned to the Carroll area. He loved the outdoors, and held a special regard for dogs. He raised Doberman Pinchers and in 2002 adopted a Rottweiler named Duchess. In July of 2010 he was united in marriage to Sandy Heires. Chris loved spending time with his wife Sandy and many friends and family. Most recently he was working for the Graphic Edge in Carroll, providing transportation for the prisoners in Rockwell City. Chris is survived by his wife Sandy Heires of Glidden; his children: Chris Werner and his wife Brenda of Virginia Beach, VA, Christina Urszan of Tecate, CA, Nancy Urszan of Cancun, Mexico, Suzanne Urszan of Tecate, CA, and Alex Urszan of Tecate, CA; his step-son, Justin Heires of Carroll, as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ann and Herman Heires; his brother-in-law, Chris Heires; and his beloved dog, Duchess.
