Carol Hilda, daughter of Edward and Margaret (Plechette) Klocke, was born November 26, 1934, at home in Carroll County, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph’s School in Dedham through the eighth grade.
On June 2, 1953, Carol was united in marriage with Eugene V. Hoffman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham by Father Henry Pick. The couple farmed the now Century Farm north of Dedham. After raising their three children, she earned her GED. Carol and Eugene retired in 1994 and moved to Carroll.
Carol was a member of the Church Choir and the Dedham Centennial Band. She enjoyed family, especially her children and grandchildren, helping on the farm, gardening and canning. Carol enjoyed a good pinochle game and the Holiday Family Euchre Tournaments. Currently, she holds the most wins listed on the Euchre Tournament Board. Her homemade strawberry jelly remains a favorite of her children and grandchildren. The great-grandchildren know that a sweet snack is always plentiful in her snack drawer.
