Beverly McFarland, 81 of Carroll, Iowa and formerly of Ottumwa and Centerville, died early Thursday morning, February 16, 2012 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Carroll City Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Bailey of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll officiating.
Beverly’s family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
Born on September 14, 1930 at Mystic, Iowa, Beverly was the daughter of Charles and Helen (Kaleff) Jenkins. She spent her younger years in the Mystic community and graduated from Mystic High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. Beverly then attended Centerville Junior College, now Indian Hills Community College and graduated in 1949. She received a teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa and taught for one year at Mediapolis. In August of 1951 she married Clifford McFarland at Mystic, Iowa. Beverly worked for the City of Orlando in the clerical department while her husband was stationed in Florida. She moved back to the Ottumwa area and was employed with American Optical in the administrative offices for 25 years. Beverly then worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services up until her retirement. She was active with the R.S.V.P. Volunteer Program and also active in the Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa and the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Beverly loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star, Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa, and was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.
Beverly is survived by her son: Cliff McFarland and his wife Susie of Carroll; two grandchildren: Jason (Amanda) McFarland of Carroll and Lindsey (Shawn) Pottebaum of Carroll; three great-granddaughters: Katey McFarland, Leah McFarland, and Amie Pottebaum; one sister, Marianne (Richard) Wakefield of Centerville; her former husband, Clifford McFarland of Mediapolis; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three children in infancy; and a grandson, David McFarland.
