Betty Neumayer

Betty Neumayer, 89 of Breda, died Friday, May 1, 2015 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Betty’s granddaughters: Kim Wiese, Angie Davis, and Becky Tjelmeland. Gift Bearers will be Betty’s granddaughters: Beth Seidl, Jennifer Neumayer and Emily Neumayer. Eucharistic Ministers will be Betty’s granddaughter, Allison Meisheid, Betty’s son-in-law, Tom Meisheid, and Brian Davis. Casket Bearers will be Betty’s grandsons: Kevin Neumayer, Brian Neumayer, Ryan Meisheid, Brent Meisheid, Jeff Loneman, and Corey Loneman. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda and online condolences may be left for Betty’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on February 20, 1926 at Carroll, Iowa, Elizabeth “Betty” was the daughter of Martin “MF” and Martha (Hermsen) Van Erdewyk. She spent her entire lifetime in the Breda area and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. On May 5, 1947 she was united in marriage to Virgil “Buddy” Neumayer at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The couple farmed east of Breda where Betty was a devoted housewife, assisting with the farming operation and raising her family. In 1984, the couple moved to their home in Breda. In 2013, Betty moved to the Carroll community where she resided at Sunnybrook; in 2014 she became a resident at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Betty enjoyed playing cards, word games, trips to the casino, and going on drives with her husband Buddy. Her greatest joy was her family and she always enjoyed hosting family gatherings for holidays and special occasions. Betty was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, National Catholic Order of Foresters and a former member of the Breda American Legion Auxiliary. Betty is survived by her children: Clifford Neumayer and his wife Janet of Breda, Clyde Neumayer and his wife Christy of Breda, Nancy Meisheid and her husband Tom of Aurora, CO, JoAnn Neppl of Humboldt, and Dean Neumayer of West Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her son-in-law, Mike (Terri) Loneman of Huxley; her siblings: Mary Ann (Don) Rowe of Breda, Ruby (Frank) Rosener of Vail, Gerald (Katie) Van Erdewyk of Breda, Joyce Goetzinger of Denison, and Leo (Deb) Van Erdewyk of Underwood; as well as other relatives and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Virgil “Buddy” Neumayer; her daughter, LuAnn Loneman; her son-in-law, Mike Neppl; and her brother in infancy, Keith Van Erdewyk.
