Bernard Wieland, age 63, of Templeton, Iowa, died of an apparent heart condition on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at his residence in Templeton. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. The Celebrant will be Father Dale Reiff. Lectors will be Kay Lynn Langel, Donna Kemper, and Margaret Venteicher. Gift Bearers will be Mr. Wieland’s children, Kay Lynn Langel, Karla Cruz, Kevin Wieland, and Kristina Wieland. Mass Servers will be Sara Langel, and Colby and Jacob Hannasch. Eucharistic Ministers will be Joea and Donna Kemper and Charlene Rupiper. Honorary Pallbearers will be Curt Fox, Merlin Irlmeier, Dan Weitl, Dave Kerkhoff, Joea Kemper, Jerry Irlbeck, Kenny Irlmeier, and Daryl Hacker. Casket Bearers will be Jim Kramer, Brian Croghan, Pat Venteicher, Steve Croghan, Corey Wieland, and David Wiegert. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Tuesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Tuesday by Sacred Heart Parish. Mr. Wieland was born on December 29, 1945, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Norbert and Margaret (Vonnahme) Wieland. He spent his lifetime in the Carroll and Templeton communities and attended St. Lawrence School and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1963. Following high school he was employed by the H.F. Schroeder and Sons Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator and then by the Jim Pudenz and Richard Pudenz farm operations. On February 8, 1969, he was married to Karen Seyller at St. Joseph Church in Carroll. Following their marriage the couple farmed the family farm southwest of Templeton and in 2004 moved to their new home in Templeton. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Mr. Wieland enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, watching football and westerns on television, bowling, and playing cards at the Corner Station near Templeton. Survivors include his wife, Karen Wieland of Templeton; children, Kay Lynn Langel and her husband Glenn of Templeton, Karla Cruz and her husband Cirilo of Templeton, Kevin Wieland and his wife Jodi of Templeton, and Kristina Wieland of Templeton; grandchildren, Sara, Mitchell, Anna, and Matthew Langel, Jazmin and Samantha Cruz, and Dylan, Carter, and Jake Wieland; sisters, Alice Kramer and her husband Don of Lake City, Margaret Venteicher and her husband Linus of Corning, Mary Kruse and her husband Robert of Manning, and Virginia Croghan and her husband Bill of Templeton; sisters-in-law, Pat Peters and her husband Don of Carroll, and Angela Wiegert and her husband Steve of Liberty, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Leonard and Lawrence Wieland; brother-in-law, John Croghan; and his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Kathryn Seyller.
