Bernard Walusz, 94 of Breda, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Rita Ann Venner. Gift Bearers will be Leonard and Jean Grote. Casket Bearers will be: Russell Boes, Bruce Boes, Paul Venner, Greg Siemann, Chris Koster, and Brian Koster. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 4 p.m. on Friday where there will be a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Secular Order of St. Francis Prayer Service.

Bernard Peter Walusz was born on June 19, 1917 at Westfield, Massachusetts, the son of George and Magdalena (Digutis) Walusz. He attended grade school and high school in Massachusetts and later graduated from American International College. Bernard was married to Ruth Kellogg, to this union were three children: Linda, David and Bradford. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1964, retiring as a Major. While in the Army, Bernard was one of the first ski instructors and climbing instructors with the 10th mountain division at Camp Carson, Colorado. Bernie’s second career was a teacher. He taught at Kuemper Catholic Schools for ten years and in his free time loved skiing, reading, and talking history. He was a highly educated man and spoke seven languages fluently. Bernard married Lois Rice in December of 1979. Bernie was a former member of the Carroll American Legion, currently a member of the Breda American Legion, Breda Secular Order of St. Francis, and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Middendorf and her husband Richard of St. Charles, MO; ten grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and other extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives: Ruth and Lois; two sons: David and Bradford; and his brother George Walusz.
