She attended school in Coon Rapids and later completed her education in Carroll through Adult Education Courses. When her family lived in town she and her niece, Peggi, would spend summers together. Barb often spoke about growing up on the acreage near Coon Rapids with their dog named Happy and assisted her family on the farm with the chickens and animals. When she was younger she rode the tractor with her grandpa. She enjoyed playing croquet and other games as a family. She loved the garden and flowers on the acreage and developed a “Green Thumb”.
On February 14, 1970 she married Richard Meiners at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids. The couple resided in Hawaii for ten months while Dick was in the military and following his honorable discharge they made their home in Dedham. Barb was a devoted housewife and mother and also had various jobs in the Dedham and Coon Rapids area. She would attend sports events with Richard and she would ride along in the semi-tractor with him and their kids.
She enjoyed traveling with her family, bowling, reading books, trips to the casino, card games, as well as various games like dominos and skip-bo. Barb was an avid country music fan and had no problem letting others know it was great music. She also enjoyed watching ice skating, gardening, and was an avid tea pot collector. Barb’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Parish Ladies Guild and the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary.
