Ann Heires, age 87, of Carroll, Iowa, died Thursday evening October 30, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. The casket will be taken to the Church at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be Sheri Leiting. Gift Bearers will be Ray and Marjorie Hacker. Eucharistic Minister will be Dawn Cavanaugh. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kim Dentlinger, Petra Schulte, Renate Geslicki, Mary Kay Dirkx, and Irene Foley. Casket Bearers will be Justin Heires, Ted Hacker, Tom Heinrichs, Mitchell Bengford, Jay Pietig, and Ron Hacker. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Monday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Monday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Heires was born on September 29, 1921, at Morgan, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Frank) Hacker. She attended St. Mary School in Willey and then worked as a nanny. On February 27, 1946, she was married to Herman L. Heires at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The couple farmed near Breda and in 1947 moved to their farm northwest of Guthrie Center. They retired in 1977 and moved to their home in Carroll. For twenty-two years Mr. and Mrs. Heires spent their summers at Cass Lake, Minnesota, and the winters in Carroll. She also worked part time at the K.C. Hall in Carroll for many years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, R.S.V.P., and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Heires and her special friend Chris Urszan of Carroll; a grandson, Justin Heires of Carroll; brother, Ray Hacker and his wife Marjorie of Halbur; sisters and brothers-in-law, Julia Hacker of Carroll and Darlene and Donald Bengford of Odebolt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Heires, in July 2000; a son, Christopher Heires; brothers, Frank Hacker and George Hacker and his wife Clara; sisters, Helen Zitzlsperger and her husband Bill, and an infant sister, Marie Hacker; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Irvin and Agnes Heires and Margie and Ed Pietig.
