Andrew Schreck, age 84, of Dedham, Iowa, died early Sunday, November 15, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at St. Joseph Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Father Terry Roder, assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Wednesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be granddaughters, Jenny Schreck and Sue Elliot. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Caitlin Schreck, Abbi Schreck, and Lisa Schreck. Mass Servers will be Danny and Brittany Baumhover. Eucharistic Ministers will be daughters-in-law, Gayle Schreck and Shell Schreck. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lawrence Klocke, Wayne Klocke, Gerald F. Schreck, Gerald G. Schreck, Leo Wernimont, and Pat Irlbeck. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, B.J. Schreck, Andy Schreck, Brian Schreck, Tony Schreck, Alex Schreck, Ben Schreck, Nicholas Sanders, and Dan Schreck. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Dedham with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Tuesday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday by St. Joseph Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for St. Anthony Hospice or the Kuemper Catholic Schools Scholarship Fund. Mr. Schreck was born on September 9, 1925, near Willey, Iowa, the son of George and Philomena (Venteicher) Schreck. He attended St. Mary School in Willey. On January 17, 1951, he was married to Ruth Dentlinger at St. John Church in Arcadia with Father Otto Dentlinger officiating. Mr. Schreck entered the U.S. Army in February 1951 and the couple spent their first year of married life stationed at the Atlanta General Military Depot in Georgia. Andy served with the 45th Infantry in Korea and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star and was honorably discharged in February 1953. Following military service the couple farmed north of Dedham until 1987 when they moved to their home in Dedham. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Parish Choir, Parish Board, and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Dedham American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and former member of the Dedham Co-op Board. Andy enjoyed attended his family’s school events, slow pitch softball, watching television, farming, Ruth’s raisin pie, and having coffee with his friends. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Schreck of Dedham; his children, Carol Winans and her husband Dr. David, of Kansas City, Kansas, Mary Schreck of Liberty, Missouri, Joyce Ruebhausen and her husband Dennis of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Bill Schreck and his wife Shell of Dedham, Tim Schreck of San Francisco, Calif., Cindy Schreck of Hiawatha, George Schreck and his wife Kim of Adel, Joe Schreck and his wife Corlyn of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mike Schreck and his wife Anne of Cedar Falls, and Ann Schreck of Hiawatha; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Schreck and her husband Clay Smith of Urbandale; twenty-two grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; his sisters, Margaret Menner of Champagne, Ill., Sister Laura Schreck F.S.P.A. of LaCrosse, Wisc., Mary Ries of Omaha, Nebr., Irene Schreck of New Berlin, Wisc., Doris Bevandic and her husband Art of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Annie Griffith and her husband George of Riverside, Calif.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Arlene Dentlinger of Arcadia, Al and Izzie Dentlinger of Westside, Martha Daniel of Lidderdale, Clara Friedman of Carroll, Joan and Bob Badding of Carroll, and Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll. He was preceded in death by a son, John Schreck, in 1994; a daughter, Lisa Schreck in 1976; his parents; brothers, Alois Schreck and Robert L. Schreck; sisters, Minnie Klahs, Sister Rose Schreck F.S.P.A., Bernice Liewer, and Angela Walsh; his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Anna Dentlinger; and by Ruth’s brother, Elmer Dentlinger.
