Al Dentlinger, 91 of Westside, died Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Darlene Leiting and the St. John’s Choir. Mass Servers will be Cory Miller and Claire Miller. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Maggie Sadler and Jennie Stevenson. Gift Bearers will be: Cheryl Ward, Brooke Dentlinger, Amy Fleming, and Erin Nelson. Casket Bearers will be Brian Dentlinger, Michael Dentlinger, Jay Lally, Greg Lally, Chad Welte, and Lisa Wright. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia with military honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at St. John’s Church in Arcadia after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Wednesday morning.

Born on March 21, 1924 at Arcadia, Iowa, Aloysius “Al” was the son of Joseph and Anna (Hoelscher) Dentlinger. Al attended St. John School and later served in the United States Marines. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the Arcadia area where he was employed with the Collison family as a farmhand.
On January 28, 1947, Al was united in marriage to Isabelle Lampe at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. Following their marriage Al and Izzie made their home south of Westside where he was engaged as a grain and livestock farmer. In 1987 following their retirement they moved into Westside.
Al and Izzie enjoyed attending dances and card clubs. In his spare time Al also enjoyed fishing, bowling and spending time with his family.
Al was a member of St. John’s Church, Carroll Knights of Columbus, and the Arcadia American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Isabelle of Denison; his children: Betty (Ed) Welte of Elk Horn, Jane (John) Lally of Denison, Lon (Jeri) Dentlinger of Omaha, and Dale (Kathy) Dentlinger of Aurora, IL; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joni Badding of Carroll; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll, Arlene Dentlinger of Arcadia, Marvin Lampe of Carroll, Albert (Margaret) Lampe of Wisconsin, and Sally Lampe of Wisconsin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Elmer Dentlinger, Lawrence Dentlinger, Ruth (Andy) Schreck, Martha (Everett) Daniel, Clara (Elmer) Friedman, and Mary Dentlinger in infancy; as well as his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law: Bob Badding, Herman Lampe, Clarence (Bertha) Lampe, Joseph (Helen) Lampe, Dorothy (Hilbert) Meister, Jeanette Lampe, and Pauline Lampe in infan
