Ronald Pietig, age 78, of Carroll, died Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Acurra Healthcare in Carroll. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Priests of St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll will preside. Casket Bearers will be Tim Pietig, Jeff Pietig, Scott Pietig, Bob Theulen, Randy Theulen, Dan Grossman, and Bill Pietig. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Ron’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. The family intends to have a larger memorial service and reception for additional friends to celebrate Ron’s life after the state’s gathering restrictions have been rescinded. Ronald, the son of Leonard and Evelyn (Berning) Pietig was born August 1, 1941 in Carroll, Iowa. Ron grew up on a farm southwest of Carroll, and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School. Ron then enlisted in the United States Army Reserve serving until his honorable discharge. He then returned to the Carroll area and began farming with his father in the family grain and dairy operation. On June 3, 1967 Ron was united in marriage to Karma Theulen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. The couple made their home southwest of Carroll where the couple continued to farm. In 2000 they moved to Carroll. Over the years Ronald also was employed with Rich Pudenz Farms, The Snare Shop, and the City of Carroll Water Department until his health forced him to retire. Ron enjoyed socializing over a cold beverage, fishing, and spending time with his family. Ron was a member of St. John Paul II Parish- St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Left to survive Ron’s life is his children: Tim Pietig and his wife Deb of Carroll; Jeff Pietig of Carroll, and Scott (Kim) Pietig of Carroll; one granddaughter Saige Pietig; his silbings: Doreen (Jack) Grote of Carroll, Joleen Gerdes of Carroll, and Bill (Judy) Pietig of Glidden; his sisters-in-law: Kathy (Dan) Grossman of Carroll and Paula Theulen of Carroll; brothers-in-law: Bob (special friend Deb Selk) Theulen of Auburn, and Randy (Cheri) Theulen of Halbur; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Evelyn Pietig; his wife, Karma in 2007; brothers-in-law: Chuck Gerdes, Rodney Theulen; parents-in-law Robert Sr. and Louise Theulen; and a niece: Jennifer Theulen.
