Roger Lynch Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Roger Lynch, 83 of Carroll, died early Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012 at the Swan House in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass Servers will be: Carter Wittrock, Ben Auen, and Sarah Auen. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir with John Wagner as soloist. Lectors will be Roger’s grandchildren: Aaron Lynch, Allison Lynch, and Ryan Lynch. Gift Bearers will be Roger’s granddaughters: Traci Wittrock, Lindsay Anderson, Allison Lynch, and Cara Wiederin. Eucharistic Ministers will be Leon and Florence Oswald. Casket Bearers will be Roger’s grandsons: Aaron Lynch, Ryan Lynch, Dustin Berger, T.J. Berger, Cory Berger, Dillon Berger, and Kent Wittrock and Scott Anderson. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Friday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by Holy Spirit Parish. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Born on October 14, 1928 at Vail, Iowa, Roger John was the son of John and Frances (Costello) Lynch. He spent his younger years on a farm in the Vail-Westside area and enjoyed playing basketball and riding his horse. Roger attended St. Ann’s Grade School and later graduated from St. Ann’s High School. On July 8, 1952 he married Veronica “Roni” Higgins at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail, Iowa. The couple moved to California where he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge they returned to the Carroll area where he worked for the Crouse Cartage Company for 32 years. He enjoyed reading, watching western movies, and dancing with Roni. Roger loved his family and always enjoyed watching and supporting all the activities his grandchildren participated in. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Roger is survived by his children: Kath Forke and her husband Gary of Carroll, Tom Lynch and his wife Sheryl of Carroll, and Lu Berger and her husband Denny of Frasier, CO; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen Higgins of Vail; as well as other extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Roni in 2003; his son, Daniel; and a sister, Carm Bornhoft.
