Roberta "Bertie" Tigges, age 81 of Carroll, died at her home in Carroll on Friday, August 27, 2021. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1st at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Fr. James Tigges. The Concelebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be provided by Kathy Halbur and Kathleen Macke, with a special song by Brad Wallace. Lector for the service will be Ron Vogel. Gift bearers will be Megan Wallace and Jacob Wallace. Casket Bearers will be Brad Wallace, Rich Wallace, Chris Wallace, Scott Tigges, Ron Vogel, Scott Wilson, Jamie Anderson, and Brad Parcher. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. Catholic Daughters of the Americas and The Antonian School of Nursing will be forming an honor guard for the service. An invitation is extended to any nurses past or present that worked with Bertie to join the honor guard. Those members forming an honor guard, please be at the church by 10:30 a.m. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a Rosary being led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 7:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Mary's Church. Arrangements are under the guidance of Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Bertie's family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born in Carroll on May 12, 1940, Bertie was the daughter of George and Barbara (Scharfenkamp) Tigges. She grew up on a farm outside Willey and attended St. Mary’s School in Willey until high school where she transferred to Kuemper Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1958. In September of 1964, Bertie graduated from the Antonian School of Practical Nursing, thus beginning her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). For 46 years, Bertie was an LPN at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, the majority of which she spent caring for newborns. Bertie was an avid bingo player and loved bowling, playing cards, and word search / jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling, including an occasional trip to the casino. Bertie was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Willey, and later became a member of Holy Spirit Church where she served faithfully as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Women’s Guild and a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Bertie enjoyed her time with friends and colleagues, but she treasured the time spent with her family the most. She is survived by her siblings: Joleen Wallace of Carroll, Denis (Joyce) Tigges, of Carroll, and Fr. James Tigges of Ft. Dodge; 4 nieces; 4 nephews; 20 great nieces and nephews; 9 great-great nieces and nephews; and many friends. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents: George and Barbara Tigges; and her brother: David Tigges.
