Phyllis Friedman, 85 of Carroll, died late Monday evening, March 27, 2017 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Craig Collison. Music will be by Kate Cuddy, St. Lawrence Choir with Sherry Loughran as cantor. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Kate Lebo and Nick Lebo. Gift Bearers will be Lois Loneman and Tom Meishied. Eucharistic Minister will be Shirley Molitor. Casket Bearers will be: Kate Lebo, Nick Lebo, Danielle Walz, Sam Friedman, Brian Neumayer, and Rachael Weverka. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m., followed by a rosary. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church on Friday morning where visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until time of the funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Lawrence Church or St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Born on November 18, 1931 at Roselle, Iowa, Phyllis was the daughter of Henry and Rose (Hochstatter) Meishied. On June 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Cyril J. Friedman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. Following their marriage the couple lived in Chicago while her husband attended DeVry University. Phyllis and Cyril then moved backed to the Carroll community where they built a new home on 18th Place. Phyllis was a devoted homemaker, housewife and raised their seven children. Phyllis and Cyril loved traveling to various locations in their younger years. She loved hosting family gatherings; especially the annual Friedman golf outing and grill out. Phyllis also enjoyed trips to the casino. She had a deep devotion to her faith being an active member of St. Lawrence Church and was also a member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Phyllis is survived by her children: Gail (Bill) Orcutt of Pleasant Hill, Sharon (Tom) Lebo of Vancouver, WA, Lisa (Dan) Walz of Omaha, NE, Bill (Veva) Friedman of Urbandale, Brian (Christine) Friedman of Omaha, NE, and Allen Friedman of Des Moines; her son-in-law, Bill (Carol) Neumayer; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Lois (Ervin “Whitey”) Loneman of Carroll; her brother, Tom (Nancy) Meishied of Aurora, CO; her sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws: Arlene Dentlinger of Carroll, Mildred Schreck of Carroll, Sister Maria Friedman, FSPA of Lacrosse, WI, Wilma (Cletus) Irlbeck of Omaha, and Doris (Pat) Riordan of Rock Hill, SC; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Amy Neumayer; her grandson, Matthew Neumayer; her siblings: Ervin Meishied, Virgine (Vincent) Irlbeck, Maxine (Bill) Meshek, Verna Mae (Francis) Roth, Linda (Jim) Loneman, and Norman Meishied.
