Mary Sturm, age 48, of Auburn, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. The Celebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch assisted by Deacon Butch Stone. Music will be by the St. Joseph’s Choir with Jeana Schroeder as Cantor. Lector will be Joan Wiederhold. Gift Bearers will be Sheri Wanniger, Kelly Malloy, and RaeAnn Frank. Eucharistic Ministers will be Sherrie Wilson, and Annette Haberl. Casket Bearers will be Justin Ortner, Brandon Aschinger, Kurt Larsen, Eric Schultz, Bryan Sloth, and Chad Fertig. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery near Auburn. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Joseph’s Church in Wall Lake Friday morning, where visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m., and continue until the time of the funeral mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Mary’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on October 25, 1968 at Carroll, Iowa, Mary was the daughter of Leo and Margaret (O’Connell) Huegerich. She grew up near Mt Carmel, and graduated from Kuemper Catholic in 1987. On September 5, 1987, Mary was united in marriage to Doug Sturm at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple made their home near Auburn where they were active in grain and livestock farming. Mary was a devoted homemaker, and helped with the farming operation whether it be driving the tractor, or helping with the livestock. She enjoyed walking, shopping, socializing with family and friends, holidays especially Christmas, and riding her Harley-Davidson. Most of all Mary was proud of her children, and her grandson. She enjoyed the time she spent with them, as well as watching their many activities, such as baseball, and Dance Team. Mary was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Wall Lake. Left to celebrate Mary’s life is her husband Doug Sturm of Auburn; her children: Michael Sturm and his wife Jenna of Auburn, Katelyn Sturm and her special friend Alex Taylor of Denver, IA, and Maggie Sturm at home; a grandson: Parker Sturm; her mother-in-law: Mildred Sturm of Lake View; her brother-in-law: Donnie (Kathy) Sturm of Auburn; her sisters-in-law: Janet (Dick) Steinkamp of Breda, Sherrie (Steve) Wilson of Lake View, Susie (Mike) Frank of Lake View, and Connie (Rod) Neumayer of Centennial, CO. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and numerous friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Leo and Margaret Huegerich, her father-in-law: Ed Sturm; and sister (brother)-in-law: JoAnn (Rich) Riedell.
