Marjorie Huelman, age 85, of Carroll, died early Monday morning, October 22, 2018, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish, Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Gift Bearers will be Janette Hansen, and Joann Kinyon. Casket Bearers will be Ken Huelman, Tom Huelman, Richard Kinyon, Larry Johnson, Jonathan Huelman, and Joe Puetz. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Schaller, Iowa. Visitation will begin at Holy Spirit Church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with a Secular Third Order Franciscan Fraternity Prayer Service, following the prayer service, visitation will continue until the time of the mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Marjorie’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Marjorie Anne was born on December 23, 1932 at Schaller, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Anne (Gallery) Huelman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller. Marjorie grew up on the family farm south of Schaller, and graduated from Schaller High School in 1950. In September of 1950, Marjorie contracted Polio. She spent 10 weeks at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City. Her experience with this illness influenced her to become a Physical Therapist. She attended Briar Cliff University for 2 years before transferring to St. Louis University, and while enrolled she was able to Intern in New York City. She would graduate in 1955 with her degree. Marjorie’s career as a physical therapist took her to many different places, these included: St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City, Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge, St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Manning Regional Hospital in Manning, and the Audubon County Hospital, and Nursing Home in Audubon. She also worked at the Carroll Bakery, and volunteered with the R.S.V.P. Program. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the Gallery Family Reunions. She also enjoyed traveling across the country, Iowa Girls Basketball, and the coverage the Des Moines Register gave for the State Tournament every year. Marjorie will be remembered for her generous spirit, donating to many charities. She was a member of St. John II Parish in Carroll, American Association of Physical Therapists, 3rd Order of St. Francis, Iowa Polio Survivors, the Carroll Area Serra Club, and the Secular Third Order Franciscan Fraternity. Survivors include her brother Eugene, and wife Marguerite Huelman; nieces and nephews: Ken (Regina) Huelman, Joann (Richard) Kinyon, Tom (Lili) Huelman, Janette (Dennis) Hansen, John Huelman, Jeanne (Jay) Spowart, Anna (Bill) Hertzberg, Jim (Michelle) Huelman, Carla Huelman, Jaylene Huelman, Pat (Kathy) Huelman, Kent (Susan) Huelman, Molly (Jeff) Hunt, and Gene (Alice) Huelman, as well as many great-nieces, and great-nephews, and other extended relatives and friends. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Norbert and his wife Lola, Francis and his wife Roberta; a sister-in-law: Kay Huelman; nephews: Bill Huelman, Bob Huelman; and a great-niece: Monica Huelman Zaruba.
