Duane Knauss

December 2, 1933 - April 1, 2022

Duane Knauss, 88 of Carroll, died Friday, April 1, 2022, at his home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at St. Lawrence Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Music will be by Kathy Halbur. Lectors will be Savannah Knauss, Sydney Knauss, and Nola Ann Becker. Casket Bearers will be Jerry Knauss, Randy Knauss, Steve Knauss, Detlef Becker, Troy Vogl, and Andrew Knauss. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Additional visitation will be on Friday at the church from 12-12:45 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Duane’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. The son of Lee Dewey and Alice Catherine (Cowan) Knauss, Duane was born on December 2, 1933, in Loveland, Iowa. He grew up in Council Bluffs and later graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1952. Duane then furthered his education and graduated from the University of Omaha in 1957. While in college he was a fireman on the Union Pacific Railroad. Duane served in the United States Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. On July 26, 1958, Duane was united in marriage to Joyce Ann McDonald at Holy Name Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He was in sales his entire career; they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Reno, Nevada, and in the early 1970s to the Carroll community, and where he and Joyce owned and operated BestChem Inc. Duane enjoyed driving, maintaining and restoring cars, watching college sports (especially Oklahoma football), traveling and working in his yard. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and St. John Paul II Parish. Duane is survived by his wife Joyce of Carroll; his children: Steve (Juli) Knauss of Waukee, Mark Knauss of Savanna, GA, Kathy (Detlef) Becker of Frisco, TX, and Kelly Knauss of Carroll; his grandchildren: Meaghn Vogl, Andrew Knauss, Savannah Knauss, Sydney Knauss, and Nola Ann Becker; and 4 cats; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lavonne Knauss of Carroll, Harold Hibbs of San Antonio, Linda McDonald of St. Louis and Beryle Johnston of LaVista, NE; as well as other extended relatives. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Ella Mae Hibbs and his brother, Wes Knauss.
