Debra Renee Kock, age 61, of Carroll, died Friday, June 30, 2017 from injuries received in an automobile accident north of Carroll. A memorial service celebrating Deb’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll. Officiating will be the Reverend Cindy Johnson; assisted by Reverend Vic Johnson, and Reverend Lorinda Hoover. Hymns for the memorial service will be, “In the Garden”, “Take My Hand Precious Lord”, “Sweet Hour of Prayer”, “Now Thank We All Our God”, and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”, accompanied by pianist Jan Potthoff. Friends may call at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, where there will be a prayer service held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church and continue until the time of the memorial service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Deb’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Debra Renee was born on August 12, 1955 at Cherokee, Iowa; the daughter of Maurice and Lillian (Nord) Peterson. She grew up in Aurelia, Iowa, where she was baptized, and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In 1973 she graduated from Aurelia High School. After graduation Deb worked for a brief time at the Social Security Administration Office in Fort Dodge before transferring to the Carroll office. While working in Carroll she met her future husband David Kock, and they were married on February 21, 1976 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River. The couple made their home north of Carroll, where for a brief time she was a homemaker. The couple spent a few years in Colorado, and South Dakota before returning to Carroll. She held various working positions in the community, before making her final career move as an Office Administrator at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll, a position in which she took great pride in her work. During her time at St. John, Deb also served as secretary for the United Methodist Church in Glidden, Lanesboro, and Lohrville. Debra enjoyed playing cards, singing karaoke, and swimming or water-walking. She took appreciation with her garden, and canning the many produce that it created. Deb was a great cook, and known to prepare the best fried chicken. Most of all Deb cherished the time she spent with her family, and her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her deep abiding faith in the Lord. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carroll. Left to cherish Deb’s memory is her husband David A. Kock of Carroll; her children: Heather (Matthew) Stephenson of Ankeny, and Joseph (Susan) Kock of Carroll; her grandchildren: Chelsey, Caden, Reagan, Corbin, and Wayne. Also surviving are her siblings: Carl Alfred (Vicky) Peterson of Cherokee, Randy Ray (Pam) Peterson of Seagoville, TX, and Donna (Clark) Doherty of Harvest, AL; her brother-in-law: Orville Jr., (Lois) Kock of Carroll, sisters-in-law: Eileen Hays of Albert City, and Sue (Bill) Schrad of Carroll, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Lillian Peterson, her parents-in-law: Orville Sr., and Marjorie Kock, and her brother-in-law: Jack Hays.
