August 20, 1933 - December 9, 2019

Art Pottebaum, age 86, of Carroll, died Monday, December 9, 2019, at his home in Carroll surrounded by his family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2019 at St. John Paul II Parish - St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Shinoj Jose. Music will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Dr. Jim Pottebaum. Gift Bearers will be: Becky Pottebaum, Kate Pottebaum and Jessi Pottebaum. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Kathy Olmstead, Dr. Jim Pottebaum and Merle Wuebker. Casket Bearers will be: Sam Pottebaum, Daniel Olmstead, Thomas Olmstead, Joe Pottebaum, Boe Winey, Becky Pottebaum, Kate Pottebaum, and Jessi Pottebaum. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church on Friday morning where additional visitation will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Anthony Hospital Regional Cancer Center. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Art's family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on August 20, 1933 at Carroll, Iowa, Arthur was the son on John H. and Coletta (Timmerman) Pottebaum. He attend Sts. Peter and Paul School and later graduated from Carroll High School in 1952. Art assisted his father with the farm operation, later joining the Army Reserves in 1955 and was drafted in the United States Army in 1957. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Carroll area where he was united in marriage to Louvine “Lou” Hoffman at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll by Msgr. Frank H. Greteman. The couple farmed in the Lytton, Lake View and Carroll area before moving to a farm near Westside. They retired to Carroll in 1999. Art loved to farm, hunt, fish and play cards. He was a member of St. John Paul II – St. Lawrence Church, Men’s Club, and the Carroll Knights of Columbus. Left to celebrate his life is his wife of 60 years, Lou Pottebaum of Carroll; his children: Kathy (Doug) Olmstead of Granger, Dr. Jim (Cindy) Pottebaum of Winterset, Rick Pottebaum (Harriet Reidenau) of Denison, and Dave (Jennifer) Pottebaum of Carroll; his grandchildren: Becky Pottebaum, Kate Pottebaum, Sam Pottebaum, Daniel (Monika) Olmstead, Thomas Olmstead and fiancé Kristyn Sylvia, Sarah (Dylan) Young, Jessi Pottebaum, Joe Pottebaum, Shauntee (Boe) Winey; his great-grandchildren: Zander, Zerich, and Zaeda Winey; his siblings: Ray (Agnes) Pottebaum of Anita, Bob (Rosie) Pottebaum of Halbur, and Mary Lou Rotert of Omaha, NE; his sister-in-law, Elaine Pottebaum of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Art was preceded in death by his parents, John and Coletta Pottebaum; his parents-in-law, Frank and Tillie Hoffman; his sister, Rita Pottebaum; his brothers: Vern (Nora) Pottebaum, Paul Pottebaum, Earl (Caroline) Pottebaum, and Donald Pottebaum; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry Rotert, Wilbert (Melvina) Wuebker, Eugene (Bernice) Hoffman, Lynn (Elaine) Hoffman, and Cletus (Emaline) Halbur.
