Agnes Halbur, age 81, of Halbur, died Thursday evening, October 27, 2016, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Mass servers will be Kiley Trecker, Nate Overmohle, and Nolan Overmohle. Music will be by Julie Sibbel, and the St. Augustine Choir. Lectors will be Tasha Hinners, Jenna Niehaus, and Jill Griebenow. Gift Bearers will be Jenny Yates, Kelsey Pottebaum, Britney Bruch, and Kim Bauer-Overmohle. Eucharistic Minister will be Pat Sanders. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Brandon Bruch, Kenzie Bruch, and Kierstyn Bauer. Casket Bearers will be Matthew Bauer, Nathan Halbur, Ryan Halbur, Tyler Trecker, Brett Trecker, Ross Halbur, Chris Halbur, and Cole Halbur. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at St. Augustine Church in Halbur after 3 p.m. on Sunday, where there will be a Rosary prayed at 4 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the church, and will continue until the time of the funeral mass. Born on February 23, 1935 at Carroll, Iowa, Agnes was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Leiting) Sanders. She attended school at St. Francis of Assisi in Maple River, before graduating from St. Angela’s Academy in Carroll. On November 22, 1955 Agnes was united in marriage to Louis Halbur at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River. The couple made their home south of Halbur, where they were active in grain and livestock farming. Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was known for her fabulous cooking, sharp card playing, and being an avid gardener. She and Louis enjoyed traveling together, and attending their grandchildren’s sporting events. The couple retired to their home in Halbur in August of 2006. Agnes will be remembered for her deep devotion to her faith, and family. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, St. Augustine Guild, and St. Augustine Parish in Halbur. Left to celebrate Agnes’ life is her husband of over 60 years Louis Halbur of Halbur. Their 6 children, and their spouses: Cindy (Matt) Bauer of Templeton, Randy (Renee) Halbur of Manilla, Jean (Bill) Trecker of Roselle, Tim Halbur of Halbur, Rodney (Faye) Halbur of Halbur, and Sheryl (Danny) Bruch of Templeton. 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Elsie Boes of Fontanelle, Helen Halbur of Carroll, Ethel Lilly of Fonda, Richard (and friend Shirlene) Sanders of California, and Ken (Janet) Sanders of Carroll; her sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Pat Sanders of Carroll, Edwin (Bernice) Halbur of Coon Rapids, Agnes Schwaller of Carroll, Rita (Harold) Sporrer of Manning, and Eileen Halbur of Manning, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Sanders, her parents-in-law: Ben and Margaret Halbur, her siblings: Isabel (Leo) Henrich, Doris (Ward) Salisbury, and Robert Sanders; her sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law: Joe Lilly, Lawrence Halbur, Leander Halbur, Martha (Vernon) Rohe, and Helen (Walt) Loeffelholz.
