Rosie Sturm

Rosie Sturm, 70 of Carroll, died peacefully, Thursday, February 6, 2020 at her home in Carroll surrounded by her family. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 5:30 p.m. with Fr. Shinoj Jose officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers and Casket Bearers will be Rosie's grandchildren. Private family burial will be held on Monday in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Rosie's family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Rose Marie (Rosie) was born on November 2, 1949 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Laura (Riesberg) Hoffman. She attended Holy Angels School in Roselle and later graduated in 1967 from Kuemper Catholic High School. Rose was employed with Farmland Foods in Carroll for 28 years until the plant closing in 2001. She then fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a cosmetologist. Rose attended La James School of Hairstyling in Ft. Dodge where she was vice-president of her class. She graduated in September of 2002 and began working in the Des Moines area as a stylist, later working for Prairie Meadows as a cashier. Rose was employed for over 10 years with Prairie Meadows and as her health began to fail returned to the Carroll area. Rose enjoyed going to the casino, playing games on the computer, but most of all being with her kids and grandchildren where she was known to them as Grandma Rosie. She also enjoyed working with crafts and decorating DIY projects. Rose loved getting together with classmates for lunches and going out for dinner with family and friends. Rose is survived by her daughters: Jodi (Jim) Wittry of Huxley, Carri (Joe) Sturm of Breda, and Heather (Kelly) Bauer of Carroll; her sons: David A Stuhr of Carroll and Scott (Jessica) Stuhr of Carroll; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 4 step grandchildren; 1 step great-grandchild; her brother, Ed (Lorraine) Hoffman of Lidderdale; her sisters: Adella (John) Vogl of Adair; Alvera (Virgil) Rosonke of Manning and Laura (Dennis) Danner of Carroll; her brother-in-law, LaVern Langel of Templeton; as well as other extended relatives and many friends. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; her sisters, Velma Hoffman in 2011 and Louetta Langel in 2019; and a niece in infancy.
