Michael Snyder

Michael Snyder, age 46, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at his residence in Carroll following a brief illness. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Lectors will be Dave Brown and Kathy Ramaekers. Gift Bearers will be Nate Molak, Cooper Molak, Grace Molak, Ted Ramaekers, Leah Ramaekers, and Jon Ramaekers. Mass Servers will be Brandon and Tucker Boeckman. Eucharistic Ministers will be Rosanne Nees and Nikki Snyder. Soloist will be Marty Tigges. The employees of Schenkelberg Implement will form an honor guard for the mass. Honorary Pallbearers will be Benet Snyder, Bret Snyder, Gary Schenkelberg, Collin Tiefenthaler, Mark “Sparky” Tiefenthaler, Pat Macke, and Mark Tiefenthaler. Casket Bearers will be Terry Snyder, Steve Snyder, Doug Jorgensen, Scott Strader, Matt Ramaekers, and Bobby Molak. According to the family's wishes his body will be cremated following the funeral mass. Friends may call at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll after 4:00 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:00 P.M. Friday by Holy Spirit Parish. Visitation will resume at 8:30 A.M. Saturday at Holy Spirit Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the church for St. Anthony Hospice, or the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Mr. Snyder was born on February 13, 1963, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Donna (Schenkelberg) Snyder. Mike spent his childhood in Carroll and attended St. Lawrence Grade School and Kuemper High School, graduating with the Class of 1982. Following high school he attended Iowa Central Community College before returning to Carroll to work at Schenkelberg Implement where he later became a part owner in his family's business. On August 26, 1983 he was married to Christy Taphorn at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. To this union two daughters, Tasha and Tacie were born. The couple made their home in Carroll, later moving to their current home which Mike and Christy built together. He was a talented carpenter and could be described by many as “Mr Fix It” or “The Jack of all Trades.” Mike enjoyed snowmobile trips out west, golfing, and the many memories with family and friends at Lake Okoboji, but his true love was spending time with his wife Christy and daughters Tasha and Tacie. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. Survivors include his wife, Christy Snyder of Carroll, his daughters, Tasha Snyder and Special Friend, Jeff Boeckman of Carroll, and Tacie Snyder of Iowa City, his mother, Donna Snyder of Carroll, his brothers and sisters, Terry Snyder and his wife Mary of Carroll, Rosanne Nees and her husband Tom of Carroll, Gina Hotaling and her husband Mike of Omaha, Nebr., Renee Brown and her husband Dave of Shawnee, Kansas, and Steve Snyder and his wife Nikki of Des Moines, his mother-in-law, Carolyn Taphorn of Carroll, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy Jorgensen and her husband Doug of Carroll, and Dr. Cathy Taphorn-Strader and her husband Scott of Downers Grove, Ill., as well as many other relatives and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Snyder, and his father-in-law, Duane Taphorn
