George Conley

George Richard Conley, 82, of Waukee and formerly of Carroll, died Monday, June 8, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 27, 2026, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with visitation starting after 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery, Carroll, Iowa. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for George's family at www.sharpfuneral.com. George was born on October 10, 1943 in Carroll, IA, and was the son of George and Mary (Frank) Conley. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper H.S. in 1962, then earned two master’s degrees. George was united in marriage to Jean Reiff/Hyland on March 29, 1999. Together they shared 27 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and family. George dedicated more than thirty years to teaching, where he made a lasting impact on generations of students. In addition to teaching, he created and operated a culinary program within the high school, working alongside special needs students. Through patience, encouragement, and genuine care, George helped his students develop confidence, practical skills, and lasting friendships. Whether he was crafting a new craps table, fishing with family, or cooking for loved ones, George’s sense of humor and generous spirit made him a joy to be around. He treasured time with family and took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of those he loved. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. George is survived by his wife, Jean Conley (Reiff) of Waukee; his children and their families; daughter Robyne Fritz (Scott) of La Crescent, MN, and daughter Rachel Stead (Matt) of Bozeman, MT, four grandchildren: Hannah, Jacob (Courtney), Aaron and Jordan as well as four great grandchildren. He is also survived by Jean’s children and their families: stepsons Kevin Hyland (Dana) of Ft. Collins, CO, Mike Hyland (Diana) of Severance, CO, and stepdaughter Heidi Kramer (Lee) of Aurora, CO, seven step grandchildren: Samantha Boren (Cal), Josh Kramer, Brittany Robinson (Trevonne), Nick Hyland (Sydney), Tyler Hyland (Hannah), Courtney Kramer and Kristen Hyland as well as four step great grandchildren. His surviving brothers are Joe and Dick Conley. George was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Conley; his three brothers: Jack, Jerry and Robert and his sister, Mary Kay Dirkx.
