Eugene Pawletzki

Eugene Pawletzki, 76, of Carroll, died Friday, September 25, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Craig Collison. Music will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir with Mary Sandvig as guest vocalist. Lectors will be Joel Pawletzki, Mark Pawletzki, Brian Pawletzki, and Gina Daniel. Gift Bearers will be Grace Sandvig, Emily Daniel, Kirsten Daniel, and Harmony Sandvig. Eucharistic Ministers will be Joel Pawletzki, Ann Christiansen, and Maria Shibita. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Selena Daniel, Kirsten Daniel, Emily Daniel, and Colin Pawletzki. Casket Bearers will be Natasha Daniel, Brittany Daniel, Matthew C. Esdohr, Jordan Pawletzki, Toby Hoffman, and Elmer Venteicher. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Maple River, with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, where there will be a rosary prayed at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, where visitation will resume until the time of the service. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church to be directed to St. Anthony Hospice, or St. Lawrence Parish. Born on October 5, 1938, at Carroll, Iowa, Eugene A. was the son of Henry and Grace (Huegerich) Pawletzki. He grew up on a farm near Maple River, Iowa. Eugene attended St. Francis School, and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll in 1957. After high school Eugene enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country from 1957 to 1962. On August 19, 1967 Eugene was united in marriage to Karen Ryan at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Iowa. He worked in appliance delivery and repair at Witt Hardware in Carroll. In 1977 he started working for General Electric in Carroll, where he worked in maintenance for 19 years. After G.E. Eugene worked for 1 year at Seidl Electric before retiring. After his retirement Eugene was self-employed free-lancing several jobs. Eugene enjoyed being a handyman of all trades, spending time and activities with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Eugene was a member of the Carroll American Legion, and St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. Eugene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen Pawletzki of Carroll. His children: Joel Pawletzki of Carroll, Mark (Stephanie) of Des Moines, Brian (Kelly) of Hilliard, OH, Gina Daniel of Breda (fiancé Matt Esdohr of Coon Rapids), and Mary Sandvig of Des Moines; his grandchildren: Natasha Daniel, Brittany Daniel, Selena Daniel, Kirsten Daniel, Emily Daniel, Jordan Pawletzki, Colin Pawletzki, Grace Sandvig, Harmony Sandvig, and one grandchild on the way; his siblings: Delores (Dennis) Olberding of California, and Gerald Pawletzki of Fonda; his in-laws: Mary (Jack) Thesing of Overland Park, KS, John (Esther) Ryan of Valparaiso, NE; Margaret Lilla of Carroll, and Karen Ryan of Arizona. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John (Lorraine) Pawletzki, sisters: Ethel (Rene) Fontaine, Marian (Richard) Noland; his in-laws: Robert Ryan, Eugene (Marcia) Ryan, Genevieve (Ron) Wolfe, Veronica Ryan, Shirley Ryan, and Larry Lilla.
