Arnold Danzer

Arnold Danzer, age 82, of Carroll, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father James McCormick. The casket will be taken to the church at 8 A.M. Saturday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be Marty Danzer and Lisa Danzer-Schlapkohl. The Petitions will be read by Anne Bennet, Erica Hassinger, and Jessica Danzer. Gift Bearers will be Nathan Danzer, Heather Danzer, and Andrea and Clare Haselhoff. Mass Servers will be Nicole Sporrer and Zach and Tyler Schlapkohl. Eucharistic Ministers will be Marty Danzer and Carol Tigges. Honorary Pallbearers will be Grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Adam Brinker, Matthew Danzer, Tim Danzer, Phillip Danzer, Courtney Danzer, and Danielle Sporrer. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Friday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus. Another rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. Friday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mr. Danzer was born on November 25, 1925, at Willey, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Frances (Balk) Danzer. He spent his lifetime in the Carroll community and attended St. Mary School at Willey. On November 16, 1950, he was married to Cedella Stangl at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple farmed seven miles southeast of Carroll until 1993 when they moved to their acreage nearer to Carroll. Mr. Danzer was a long time grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed dancing, raising horses, playing cards, and watching his grandchildren grow. Survivors include his wife, Cedella Danzer of Carroll; children, Gary Danzer and his wife Karen of St. Charles, Illinois, Sharon Brinker and her husband Clay of West Des Moines, Lynn Danzer of Council Bluffs, Michele Sporrer and her husband Keith of Templeton, Marty Danzer and his wife Lisa of Carroll, Lisa Danzer-Schlapkohl and her husband Hank of Dallas, Texas, and Jeff Danzer and his wife Kim of Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister, Audrey Weitl of Carroll; brother, Edmund Danzer and his wife Joan of Carroll; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Eunice Reising of Breda, Merle Stangl of Atlantic, Warren and Laura Stangl of Claremont, Minn., Glenn and Margaret Stangl of Osage, Gaylord and Arlene Stangl of Coon Rapids, Lorraine Weitl of Carroll, and Marilyn and Dennis Berg of Arcadia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a twin sister in infancy.
