Arlene Dentlinger

Arlene Dentlinger, 96 of Arcadia, died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2022, at St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder. Concelebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Sharon Bierl and the St. John Choir. Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Diane Dentlinger, Cate Hegstrom, and Lola Blaser. Gift Bearers will be Maria Promes, Amy Dentlinger, and Kreighton Liechti. Eucharistic Minister will be Sister Maria Friedman. Casket Bearers will be Dave Dentlinger, Roger Dentlinger, Neil Dentlinger, Craig Dentlinger, Loren Dentlinger, Joel Dentlinger, Lee Dentlinger, Russ Hegstrom, Al Blaser, and Carey Promes. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Arcadia. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. There will be no additional visitation on Friday at the church. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Anthony Nursing Home or Kuemper Catholic Schools. Born on March 9, 1926 in Roselle to William and Helen (Soppe) Friedman, Arlene grew up in Roselle and attended Holy Angels School in Roselle through 8th grade. During her school years she worked at her dad’s hardware store in Roselle. Prior to her marriage she worked at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Carroll. On February 12, 1947, Arlene was united in marriage to Lawrence Dentlinger at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. To this union 11 children were born. While living on the farm, she was an homemaker. Later in her married life she worked as a home health aide for several years at Carroll Area Nursing Services. In 1993 they retired and moved into Arcadia. Arlene enjoyed fishing, playing cards and games, going to casinos with her sisters and friends and attending a multitude of events involving children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and was known for her sewing, cooking, and baking abilities. She was active in her church and served as a Eucharistic minister. Left to celebrate Arlene’s life are her children: Dave (Deanne) Dentlinger of Arcadia, Diane Dentlinger of Des Moines, Roger (Sue) Dentlinger of Marcus, Cate (Russ) Hegstrom of Clive, Neil Dentlinger of Maple Grove, MN, Craig (Debbie) Dentlinger of West Des Moines, Loren (Kim) Dentlinger of Carroll, Lola (Al) Blaser of DeWitt, Joel (Sheila) Dentlinger of Arcadia, Lee (Sharon) Dentlinger of New Virginia, Maria (Carey) Promes of Carroll; 30 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; her sisters Mildred Schreck of Omaha; Sister Maria Friedman, La Crosse, WI; and Wilma Irlbeck of Omaha; her sisters in law Izzie Dentlinger of Denison, Joni Badding of Carroll and Doris Riordan in Rock Hill, SC, as well as many other extended relatives. Arlene is preceded in death by her spouse Lawrence, her parents William and Helen Friedman, step-father Joseph Lengeling, a daughter in law Karen (Menke) Dentlinger, her siblings and in-laws Elmer (Clara) Friedman, Dennis Friedman, Lenore (Del) Lengeling, Cyril (Phyllis) Friedman, Al “Ollie” Dentlinger, Doug Schreck, Clete Irlbeck, Bob Badding, Elmer (Elaine) Dentlinger, Ruth (Andy) Schreck; Martha (Everett) Daniel, and two brothers, Marvin and Alvin, in infancy.
