Roland Dean Siders of Carroll died peacefully and entered the Lord’s presence in the early morning hours of January 23, 2026 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Dean was born on September 21, 1938 to Raymond and Lulu (Black) Siders at a house in Ireton, Iowa. He was the fourth of five children. Shortly after, the family moved to a tenant house on a farm east of Ireton. At the age of four, Dean moved with his family to a farm near Craig, Iowa, where he spent his childhood years. Dean attended two country schools from kindergarten through sixth grade, Preston #1 and #2 in Plymouth County. He started seventh grade at LeMars public schools and continued there through high school, graduating with the storied class of 1957.
In 1958, Dean moved to Laramie, Wyoming, where he joined his brother Francis and worked as a mechanic. In early 1961, he joined the Iowa Air National Guard and served his country as an aviation hydraulics mechanic for six years. In June of 1961, he met Kathy Patterson and on March 2, 1963 the two were married in Billings, Montana. To their marriage they added two sons and a daughter.
Dean and Kathy moved back to Hawarden, Iowa in 1964, where Dean worked as a parts man for the local NAPA auto parts store in Hawarden. In 1971, they relocated to Orange City, where Dean eventually bought into the ownership of Standard Parts, the local NAPA store, running it for 25 years until his retirement in 2004.
Dean loved to ride and to work on motorcycles and had an impressive collection of MotoGuzzis. He enjoyed numerous cross-country road trips to Sturgis and to annual MotoGuzzi club rallies held in a number of states.
Dean had a simple faith in Jesus as his Good Shepherd, and he often expressed that faith by helping others. Whenever someone had a car problem, Dean would be there to lend a hand. He served a term as a deacon at First Reformed Church, Orange City, Iowa and also enjoyed serving for a number of years as a volunteer at Bibles for Missions.
Dean was a hard worker who was devoted to caring for his wife Kathy and providing for his family. He was a supportive and loving father and grandfather, attending countless concerts, games, and graduations over the years.
Dean is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Kathy Siders of Carroll, sons Russ Siders of Nashville, Tennessee, and Randy Siders, of Waukee, Iowa, and by his daughter Robin Cast of Manning, Iowa. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and by a brother, Norman Siders of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lulu Siders, by his brothers Lloyd Siders and Francis Siders, and by a sister, Alta Baack.
A memorial service celebrating Dean’s life is being planned for the spring.
