James Mielk, 88, of Carroll, died Monday, February 9, 2026, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at St. John Paul II Parish ~ St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Kathy Halbur and Sherry Loughran will provide the music. The Lector is Kathy Marsh. The Mike Mielk family will be Gift Bearers. Ann Fitzpatrick is the Eucharistic Minister. Jim’s family will serve as Casket Bearers. Military Honors will be conudcted by the Arcadia American Legion. Burial will follow in Carroll City Cemetery.
A visitation will be held after 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church prior to the Mass.

James Arnold, son of Gordon and LaVerna (Killeen) Mielk, was born August 29, 1937, in Carroll, Iowa. In 1955, he graduated from Westside High School.
At the age of 17, James enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on active duty until 1958. He remained in the reserves until receiving his honorable discharge on August 1, 1963.
On September 5, 1959, James was united in marriage with Patricia Christensen at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail. That December, he started work as a contract carrier for Moorman Manufacturing of Quincy, Illinois until 1971 at which time he then became a licensed operator for Decker Truck Lines of Fort Dodge. In March of 1973, James sold his equipment and went to work for Crouse Cartage Co. in Carroll, working there until retiring in October of 1998.
During retirement, James continued to work part-time for Crouse Transportation Services. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards.
James is survived by his wife Pat Mielk of Carroll; five children: Mike (Cathy) Mielk of Ankeny; Kathy (Gregg) Marsh of Mapleton; Diane Mielk of Houston, Texas; Carolyn (Jeff) Tingwald of Grimes; Colleen (Mark) Motsinger of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel, a brother Charles and brothers-in-law Jim Baumhover and Robert Christensen.
