Roger Kohorst, age 67, of Carroll, Iowa, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father James McCormick. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Thursday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be Diane Hannasch and Dave Prebeck. Gift Bearers will be Laurie Mayer, Stacey Sporrer, and Kristine Kohorst. Eucharistic Ministers will be Denise Higgins and Judy Feld. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Higgins, Paul Wieland, Arlo Bueltel, Larry Feld, Dave Staiert, Roger Pudenz, Mike Stotts, Randy Schreck, Ron Hannasch, Mark Hoffman, Jack Grote, Orville Ludwig, Don Beidler, Harry Rose, Jim Pudenz, and Gene Muhlbauer. Casket Bearers will be Kevin Sporrer, Scott Sporrer, Bill Kemper, Bob VanScoy, Jon Prebeck, Jason Kohorst, Tom Grote, and Dave McCrea. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Wednesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday by Holy Spirit Parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Mr. Kohorst was born on March 2, 1941, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Henry and Rosemary (Pachta) Kohorst. He spent his lifetime in the Carroll community and attended St. John Grade School in Arcadia and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1959. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames for one year. On June 15, 1963, he was married to Deanna Kemper at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. The couple farmed in the Carroll area and for the last thirty years five miles southwest of Carroll. He was a grain and livestock farmer and farm equipment broker. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. Mr. Kohorst enjoyed his family, farming, Kuemper High School and Iowa State University athletics, playing cards, and having coffee with his friends. Survivors include his son, Mark Kohorst and his fiancé Jayne Kroger of Harlan; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Kohorst of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren; his mother, Rosemary Kohorst of Carroll; sister, Joleen Cornelius and Drew Yaggy of Carrollton, Texas; brother, Randy Kohorst and his wife Micki of Arcadia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosalyn Sporrer of Templeton, Kathy and Dave Prebeck of Ft. Dodge, Joea and Donna Kemper of Templeton, Norbert Grote of Glidden, and Pat Osterlund of Vail; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Deanna Kohorst, in June 2001; sons, Philip Kohorst, in November 2005 and Keith Kohorst, in February 2007; and father and mother-in-law, William and Frances Kemper.
