Nola Kohorst, age 75, of Arcadia, Iowa, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at her residence of an apparent heart condition. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at St. John Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Father John Thomas. Lector will be Mrs. Kohorst’s son, Alan Kohorst. Gift Bearers will be Andrea Flug, Melissa Kohorst, and Stacy Ehlers. Mass Servers will be Ashley and Kelsey Blum. Eucharistic Ministers will be Pat Vogl, Phil Collison, and Arlene Dentlinger. Casket Bearers will be Marshall Kohorst, Nick Kohorst, John Kohorst, Clyde Weitl, Doug Weitl, and Brian Weitl. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. John Cemetery in Arcadia. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Tuesday by the St. John Christian Mothers. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Tuesday by St. John Parish. Mrs. Kohorst was born on March 14, 1933, at Templeton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles W. and Anna (Liewer) Weitl. She spent her younger years in the Templeton community and graduated from Sacred Heart High School and in 1953 graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll as a Registered Nurse. She was employed at St. Anthony Hospital and in private medical practice until 1963. On September 22, 1955, she was married to Vernon J. Kohorst at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. The couple farmed near Roselle and in 1963 moved to the Kohorst family farm north of Arcadia. Following her husband’s death in May 2000 she moved to an apartment in Arcadia. Mrs. Kohorst was a founding member and manager of the Tip Top Terrace Senior Housing in Arcadia for 28 years and received the 2008 U.S.D.A. Iowa Housing Site Manager of the year award. She was a member of St. John Parish, Parish Christian Mothers, and a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer. She enjoyed her family, friends, crocheting, gardening, political discussions, cooking, and baking. Survivors included her sons, Alan Kohorst and his wife Melinda of New Orleans, Louisiana, Oran Kohorst and his wife Mary of Arcadia, and Arden Kohorst and his wife Diane of Arcadia; grandchildren, John Kohorst, Melissa and Nick Kohorst, Andrea Flug and her husband Tim, Stacy Ehlers and her husband Will, and Marshall Kohorst; great grandchildren, Jaydon and Kavin Flug; sisters, Arlene Stangl and her husband Gaylord of Coon Rapids and Sister Myra Weitl O.S.F. of Calhoun City, Miss.; brothers, Marlo Weitl and his wife Almyra of Carroll and Norbert Weitl and Sue Feilmeier of Carroll; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Weitl of York, Nebr. and Patricia Weitl of Templeton. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Richard Weitl and Charles J. “CJ” Weitl.
