Ronald Wurzer, age 69, of Willey, Iowa, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at his residence following a long illness. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 4, 2008, at St. Mary Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Lector will be Peg Scheidt. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Erica Kozak, Alison Kozak, Katelynn Kozak, and Ashley Blum. Mass Servers will be Colin Schreck, Alyson Schreck, and Brian Bauer. Soloist will be Darrin Kozak. Eucharistic Ministers will be Mary Schreck, Kathy Riesberg, and Lorena Grossman. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Terry Wurzer, Adam Wurzer, Wyatt Wurzer, Nolan Wurzer, Eric Blum, Ashley Blum, Hannah Wurzer, Erica Kozak, Alison Kozak, and Katelynn Kozak. Casket Bearers will be Dave Bauer, Ron Nieland, Mark Schreck, Keith Schreck, Allan Tigges, Doug Riesberg, and Ron Anthofer. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Willey. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Sunday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Sunday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Sunday by St. Mary Parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for St. Anthony Hospice. Mr. Wurzer was born on July 9, 1939, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Agnes (Grossman) Wurzer. He attended St. Mary School at Willey, Carroll High School, and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1957. On January 30, 1960, he was married to Mildred Tigges at St. Mary Church in Willey. The couple farmed southwest of Coon Rapids and in 1972 he started Ron’s Machine and Welding Shop on the farm. In the early 1990’s he began working for Carroll Manufacturing Company in Carroll as a machinist. The Wurzer’s moved to their home in Willey in 1996 and from 1995 until November 2007 he worked with his son, Dave, at Terad Fabricating Inc. in Willey. He was a member of St. Mary Parish and the Iowa Blacksmith and Welders Association. Mr. Wurzer enjoyed welding, playing euchre with his Dedham friends, pretty country music, working with his roses, Chicago Cubs baseball, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Millie Wurzer of Willey; children, Karen Blum and her husband Keith of Ames, Kathy Kozak and her husband Darrin of Glidden, Dave Wurzer and his wife Bonnie of Willey, Patty Johnson of Early, Sharon Wurzer of Ames, and Doug Wurzer and his wife Tanya of Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Eric and Ashley Blum, Terry and Adam Wurzer, Erica, Alison, and Katelynn Kozak, and Wyatt, Hannah, and Nolan Wurzer; brothers, Duane Wurzer of Denver, Colorado and Marvin Wurzer and his wife Lynn of Houston, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joleen and Terry Miller of Ankeny, Vernon and Norma Tigges of Dexter, and Norbert and Phyllis Tigges of Dexter; an aunt, Frances Grossman of Willey; and an uncle, George Grossman of Dedham. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Wurzer, in infancy; grandparents, Henry and Gertrude Wurzer and George and Mary Grossman; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Minnie Tigges; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Bernice Tigges.
