Charles “Chuck” Ware, age 68, of Carroll, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 P.M. Friday. There will be a prayer service at 7 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with Father Craig Collison officiating. Mr. Ware will be taken to the Reece Funeral Home, 607 E. Second St., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501, where visitation will begin at 9 A.M. Sunday with the family present from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday, February 16, 2009, at the Reece Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Reverend Dale Gray. Burial will be at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at either funeral home in Mr. Ware’s name for Bowling Scholarships. Mr. Ware was born on February 7, 1941, at Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Russell and Peg (Munn) Ware. He spent his younger years in the Ottumwa community and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1959. In July 1959 he entered the U.S. Air Force and while serving in the military was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Beverly Smith on December 19, 1959, in York, Nebraska. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in January 1968. The couple returned to Ottumwa and operated an A. & W. Root Beer Store until 1978. In 1979 they moved to Carroll when they purchased the Carroll Bowl, a business the family operates to the present day. He was a member of the Carroll Moose Lodge and many bowling associations. Mr. Ware enjoyed his family, playing cards, playing golf, and bowling. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ware of Carroll; a son, Ken Ware and his wife Linda of Glidden; six grandchildren, Jennifer Puffett, Stacy Bauer, Dawn Ware, Jon Ware, Erica Ware, and Matt Ware; 5 great grandchildren; his mother, Peg Ware of Ottumwa; and brothers, Bill Ware and his wife Judy of Monmouth, Illinois, Rick Ware and his wife Sandy of Amarillo, Texas, Randy Ware of California, and Roger Ware and his wife Rhonda of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Ware; a brother, Dick Ware; and a granddaughter, Jessica Ware.
