Lucille Geier, age 94, of Mt. Carmel, Iowa, died Monday evening, April 27, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M., Friday, May 1, 2009, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be Molly Hall and Christine Fluto. Gift Bearers will be Anna Geier, Michael Geier, and Chris Geier. Soloist will be Katie Geier. Eucharistic Ministers will be Anna Geier, Marsha Geier, and Robert Geier. Casket Bearers will be Anthony Geier, Steven Geier, Andrew Geier, Patrick Geier, Donald Geier, and Matthew Geier. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 P.M. Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Thursday by the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Altar Society. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Thursday by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. Mrs. Geier was born on July 4, 1914, at Auburn, Iowa, the daughter of John and Philomena (Roth) Tharnish. She grew up in the Auburn community and graduated from Auburn High School and taught at a country school for two years. On April 28, 1936, she was married to John G. Geier at St. Mary Church in Auburn in a double marriage ceremony with her sister Philomena and Joe Miller. The couple farmed in the Mt. Carmel and Breda community until 1969 when they moved to their home in Mt. Carmel. Mrs. Geier had been employed as the Activity Director at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home for thirteen years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Parish Altar Society, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Mrs. Geier enjoyed her family, playing cards, quilting, flowers and gardening, and fishing. Survivors include her sons, John Geier of Ireton, Denis Geier of Minneapolis, Minn., and Robert Geier and his wife Donna of Granite Falls, Minn.; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Geier, in January 1994; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Geier; brothers, Pete and Louis Tharnish; and sisters, Catherine Tharnish and Philomena Miller.
