Agnes Polking, age 94, of Breda, Iowa, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 4, 2009, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be Ellen Tregear, Katherine Polking, and Liz Determan. Gift Bearers will be Jill McCaulley, Lyndsay Cress, Elizabeth Polking, and Connie O’Tool. Mass Servers will be Brian and Matt Koster. Eucharistic Minister will be Andy Koster. Casket Bearers will be Jon Determan, Nick Determan, Ross Polking, Mark O’Tool, Phil McCaulley, Matt Cress, Mel Wernimont, and Steve Tregear. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 P.M. Sunday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Sunday by St. Bernard Ladies Guild. There will be a Christian wake service at 6 P.M. Sunday by St. Bernard Parish. Mrs. Polking was born on November 25, 1914, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Bartosh) Daiker. She spent her younger years in Carroll and attended St. Joseph School and then worked in retail stores in Carroll. On January 14, 1941, she was married to Edgar C. Polking at St. Joseph Church in Carroll. The couple spent their entire married life in Breda. From 1966 until her retirement in 1985 Mrs. Polking was employed at the Carroll Manor Nursing Home as a Medication Aid. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Mrs. Polking enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, baking, fishing, and was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fan. Survivors include her children, Janice Determan and her husband Gary of Sioux City, Lois O’Tool and her husband Dr. Ken of Beloit, Wisc., Douglas Polking and his wife Mari of Pella, and Dr. Robert Polking and his wife Dr. Mary Beth of Mason City; nine grandchildren, Jon Determan and his wife Liz, Jill McCaulley and her husband Phil, Nick Determan and his wife Tracy, Mark O’Tool and his wife Connie, Ellen Tregear and her husband Steve, Ross Polking and his wife Kristin, Lyndsay Cress and her husband Matt, Katherine Polking, and Elizabeth Polking; seven great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Felicitas Polking of Carroll, Doreen Polking of Breda, and Inez Snook of Ida Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar Polking, in 1990; two brothers, Frank and Walter Daiker; and a sister, Teresa Snook.
