Edgar Snyder, age 93, of Breda, Iowa, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be Joe Snyder, Ron Snyder, and Jim Snyder. Gift Bearers will be Anne Snyder, Jean Snyder, and Katie Snyder. Eucharistic Minister will be Madonna Boeckman. Casket Bearers will be Paul Snyder, John Snyder, Nick Polking, Chris Holdren, Michael Holdren, and Andrew Snyder. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda with military honors by the Breda American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 3:30 P.M. Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Monday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Monday by St. Bernard Parish. Mr. Snyder was born on October 27, 1915, at Breda, Iowa, the son of Joe and Helen (Hammers) Snyder. He spent his lifetime in the Breda community and graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1933. Following high school he farmed until September 1942 when he entered the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in September 1943 at the rank of Corporal. He was married to Alita G. Reinart on February 16, 1942, at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. The couple farmed in the Breda area. Mr. Snyder was a long time pork producer and grain farmer retiring in 1977. He was also a sales representative for the Pioneer Seed Company and Garst Seed Company. He was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Breda American Legion and served as Post Commander. He was a former 4-H Leader, and former member of the Carroll Community School Board. Mr. Snyder enjoyed his family, traveling, beer, reading, watching baseball on television, and was a staunch Democrat. Survivors include his wife, Alita Snyder of Breda; children, Joe Snyder and his wife Marilyn of Lawrence, Kansas, Ron Snyder and his wife Pat of San Leandro, Calif., Jim Snyder and his wife Nancy of Wichita, Kansas, Tim Snyder and his wife Kathy of Breda, Ann Polking and her husband Russ of Newton, and Marty Snyder and his wife Carol of Breda; seventeen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Randy Holdren of Maxwell; sisters-in-law, Lucinda Ocken of Plantation, Florida, and Lucille Davis of Omaha, Nebr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Holdren; sisters, Mae Feldmann and Edith Leonard; brothers, Cyril Snyder, Walt Snyder, and Fred Snyder; and brothers, Wilfred Snyder and Carl Snyder, in infancy.
