Father Lloyd W. White, age 85, of Carroll, Iowa, died Friday evening, May 22, 2009, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M., Thursday, May 28, 2009, at St. Ann Church in Vail, Iowa. The Celebrant will be the Reverend Monsignor R. Mark Duchaine, Vicar General of the Diocese of Sioux City. Con-celebrants will be Priests of the Diocese of Sioux City. Homilist will be Father Allan Reicks. Lectors will be Matt Lujano and Kelly Kohl. Gift Bearers will be Maureen White, Hannah Rossiter, Joseph Rossiter, and Sara Calhoun. Mass Servers will be Adam Riesselman and Ryan Ricke. Music will be provided by St. Ann Choir and Kuemper Catholic High School vocal students. Casket Bearers will be James J. White, Robert White, John Patrick White, Patrick Malloy, Kelly Kohl, and Michael Malloy. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Vail with military honors conducted by the Alfred Rossman American Legion Post #196 of Westside. Visitation will begin at 3 P.M. Wednesday at St. Ann Church in Vail. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Wednesday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and Legion of Mary. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Wednesday by the Parish. Visitation will resume at 9 A.M. Thursday at the Church. The Carroll Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard for the rosary and funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. The Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of funeral arrangements. Father White was born on April 27, 1924, at Westside, Iowa, the son of Edward P. and Mary (Lawler) White. He attended country school in Crawford County and graduated from St. Ann High School in Vail in 1942. After graduation he attended Trinity College in Sioux City and Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining, New York. He entered the U.S. Army in July 1946 and was discharged in November 1947. In 1948 he enrolled at Creighton University in Omaha and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology. In March 1951 he entered the U.S. Air Force and served as a Medical Technologist and was discharged in June 1952. Following military service he worked as a Medical Technologist in Albion, Nebraska, before enrolling at Mt. St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque. He was ordained a Catholic Priest on May 31, 1958, at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City by Bishop Joseph M. Mueller. He served as Assistant Pastor at St. James Parish in LeMars and St. Joseph Parish in Sioux City and served on the faculties of Heelan High School and Gehlen Catholic High School. He served as Pastor of St. Joseph Parish at Neptune, Sacred Heart Parish at Sutherland, St. Anthony Parish at Primgar, St. Rose of Lima Parish at Denison, St. Joseph Parish at Schaller, and Sacred Heart Parish at Manilla before retiring in July 1994 and moving to Carroll. While assigned to Denison Father White supervised the construction of the St. Rose of Lima Parish Center. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in Carroll. He served the Fourth Degree Knights as Faithful Friar and served as Spiritual Director of the Carroll Legion of Mary. Father White’s main areas of interest were his family, conservation, and Catholic education. Survivors include his brother, Joseph R. White of Carroll; a sister-in-law, Alma White of Casper, Wyoming; nephews, James J. White and his wife Peggy of Carroll, John Patrick White of Casper, Wyoming, and Robert White and his wife Judy of Fremont, Nebr.; nieces, Connie Ashba and her husband Leo of Casper, Wyoming, Mary Lou Rock and her husband Shane of Omaha, Nebr., Ann Nelson and her husband John of Omaha, Nebr., and Colleen Rossiter and her husband Lyle of Newell; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin White and John White; sisters, Pearl Williams and her husband Brice and Esther White; and a sister-in-law, Helen White.
