Michael Reighard, age 52, of Carroll, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll of complications of pneumonia. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, August 1, 2009, at the United Church of Christ in Carroll. Louis Ferguson will officiate at the services. The family will meet with friends at the church beginning at 10 A.M. until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the church for New Hope Village. The Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of funeral arrangements. Mr. Reighard was born on March 1, 1957, at Des Moines, Iowa, the son of William and Jeslyn Reighard. He spent his younger years at home in Des Moines and as a resident of the Hospital School at the University of Iowa. While at home he attended the Easter Seals Center and the Smouse Opportunity Center. In 1977 he became a resident of New Hope Village in Carroll where he was the editor of the New Hope Village Newspaper. He was a member of the United Church of Christ. Prior to declining health, Mike was always happy, smiling and affectionately known as the “Sunshine Boy”. He enjoyed watching sports, playing board games, playing cards, going on vacations, and was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. Survivors include his mother, Jeslyn Dally of West Des Moines; a brother, Bill Reighard (Cindy) of Ankeny; a niece, Stephanie Ohloff (Blake) of Ankeny; nephews, Joshua Reighard of Chicago, Ill., and Cole Lang (Emily) of Austin, Texas; a great niece, Addison Lang; a great nephew, William Ohloff; and by his extended New Hope Village family. He was preceded in death by his father; and step-father, Beryl Dally.
