Robert Craig Iler, age 54, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Friday, September 18, 2009, at Sunnybrook of Carroll following a six month battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Lector will be Dennis Schleisman. Gift Bearers will be his sisters, Sue Nelson, Nancy Williams, and Dianne Wood. Eucharistic Ministers will be Dennis Schleisman, and Urban and Jean Knobbe. Casket Bearers will be nephews, David Iler and Matthew Nelson and cousins, David Ricke, Mike Heim, Mark Nobiling, and Glenn Nobiling. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 P.M. Monday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Monday by the Parish. Mr. Iler was born on January 7, 1955, at Lake City, Iowa, the son of Robert D. and Rose Marie (Lutwitze) Iler. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1973 and then graduated from Iowa State University in 1977 with a degree in economics. While in college he was a member of ROTC and following graduation entered active duty in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in April 1988 at the rank of Captain. On December 8, 2002, he was married to Kimberly Perry. Mr. Iler was employed by Data Solutions and Technologies as a security contractor in Iraq for the past four years until ill health forced his retirement. He enjoyed football, auto racing, German Shepherd dogs, and traveling. Survivors include his parents, Robert D. and Rose Marie Iler of Carroll; his sisters, Susan Nelson and her husband Jim of Cherokee, Nancy Williams and her husband Steve of Houston, Texas, and Dianne Wood and her husband Don of Omaha, Nebr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael D. Iler; and grandparents, Orley and Ruth Iler and Rosalia Lutwitze.
