Eunice Masching, age 78, of Carroll, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson, assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Con-celebrant will be Father John Gerald. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Saturday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lector will be Jackie Stoffel. Gift Bearers will be Danielle Julich and Taryn Lawler. Eucharistic Minister will be Don Masching. Casket Bearers will be Dustin Julich, Mathew Freund, Michael Freund, Rick Freund, Kelly Freund, Corey Freund, and Kenny Blum. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Friday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Masching was born on May 22, 1931, at Earling, Iowa, the daughter of Matt and Mary (Gross) Freund. She spent her younger years in the Earling community and attended St. Joseph School. On November 24, 1959, she was married to Louis H. Masching at St. Joseph Church in Earling. The couple lived in the Carroll area and moved to Carroll in 1969. Eunice had been employed for many years at the Jung’s Bakery in Carroll and then at the HyVee Bakery until ill health forced her retirement. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Eunice enjoyed music and playing cards. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Lawler and her husband Tim of Carroll; a son, John Masching of Omaha, Nebr.; her grandchildren, Dustin Julich, Danielle Julich, Taryn Lawler, and Michael Wurzer; sisters, Alice Miller and her husband Don of Defiance, Patty Blum and her husband Chris of Portsmouth, Marilyn Schwarte of Manilla, and Lois Sontag and her husband Don of Atlantic; brothers, Jim Freund of Earling, Dennis Freund and his wife Helen of Earling, and Phil Freund and his wife Jane of Dow City; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Leo Schon of Carroll, Evie and Donald Wieland of Carroll, Rainey and Paul Wieland of Carroll, Edna and Orville Ludwig of Carroll, Mary and Jim Pudenz of Carroll, Don and Barb Masching of Breda, Jim and Joyce Masching of Carroll, Lois and Chuck Neumayer of Rancho Murieta, Calif., and Betty Masching of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Masching, in March 1987; her parents; and a brother-in-law, Gene Schwarte.
