Alvera Irlbeck, age 91, of Carroll, Iowa, died Monday, November 30, 2009, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 4, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Friday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be Tracie Barlow and Tricia Gohlke. Gift Bearers will be Erica Barlow, Sydney Barlow, and Allie Barlow. Eucharistic Ministers will be Julia Stewart and Roberta Tigges. Casket Bearers will be Jeff Whitefield, Jason Whitefield, Brad Irlbeck, Taylor Rosonke, Pete Rosonke, and Jim Steinkamp. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Willey. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Thursday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Thursday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Irlbeck was born on December 1, 1917, near Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Catherine (Zitzlsperger) Schultes. She spent her younger years in the Willey community and attended St. Mary School and graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll. On February 16, 1937, she was married to William Irlbeck at St. Mary Church in Willey. The couple farmed east of Willey. Mr. Irlbeck died in March 1952 and Alvera moved her family to Carroll in 1956. She had been employed by the General Electric Company in Carroll from 1972 until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Alvera enjoyed her family, reading, watching television, and going to the Holy Spirit Adoration Chapel. Survivors include her children, Ronald Irlbeck and his wife Norma of Oxnard, Calif., Lois Whitefield and her husband Richard of Ames, Jerry Irlbeck and his wife Esther of Spirit Lake, Sharon Irlbeck of Carroll, and Barb Weldon and her husband Bill of Dayton, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; her sisters, Janet Snyder of Breda, Dorothy Bruening of Carroll, Loretta Hannasch of San Antonio, Tex., and Marilyn Pletchette of Carroll; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Schultes of Carroll and Mary Lou Schultes of Dedham. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters, Lavine Tigges, Louise Schultes, Mary Jo Schultes, and Lynette Steinkamp; and brothers, Leon Schultes and Arthur Schultes.
