Marcile Hoffman, age 83, of Mt. Carmel, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lectors will be Christa Hoffman, Heather Schmitz, and Ryan Boedeker. Gift Bearers will be Melissa Schmitz, Elizabeth Nobiling, and Tonya Boedeker. Soloist will be Melissa Schmitz. Mass Servers will be Gabe Evans and Alex Schmitz. Eucharistic Ministers will be Theresa and Mike Wilson and Loras Hoffmann. Casket Bearers will be Scott Wilson, Christopher Boedeker, Kevin Nobiling, Andrew Schmitz, Jody Gay, and Sharon Hoffman. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Mt. Carmel.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Friday by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Altar Society. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Friday by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
Marcile was born on April 3, 1927, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Sylvester J. and Mathilda E. (Neuerburg) Thelen. She spent most of her lifetime in the Carroll and Mt. Carmel communities and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. Following her education she helped her family on the farm. On May 6, 1947, she was married to Alfred Hoffman at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The couple lived for a short time in Carroll and Stuart and in 1961 moved to their farm north of Carroll on Highway 71. Marcile was a homemaker and helped with the farm work. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Parish Altar Society, and the Miraculous Medal Society. Marcile enjoyed her family, gardening and flowers, canning food, needle work, and helping with the farm chores.
Survivors include her children, Myron Hoffmann and wife Rebecca of Carroll, Victor Hoffman and wife Mary of Carroll, Theresa Wilson and husband Mike of Bolckow, Missouri, Martha Schmitz and husband Kelly of Maryville, Missouri, Rita Boedeker and husband Frank of Monticello, Minn., and Mary Parks and husband Dennis of Oskaloosa; her grandchildren, Jody Gay and husband Chris, Daniel Hoffman, Jacob Hoffman, Sharon Hoffman, Christa Hoffman, Kimberly Smith and husband Ben, Scott Wilson and wife Susan, Sara Wilson-Bailey and husband Steve, Melissa Schmitz, Heather Schmitz, Andrew Schmitz, Christopher Boedeker, Tonya Boedeker, Ryan Boedeker, Kevin Nobiling, Elizabeth Nobiling, Molly Nobiling, and Carter Parks; three great grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Ann Ludwig and husband Allan of Carroll, and Lynette Schaffer and husband Michael of Omaha, Nebr.; brothers, Norman Thelen of Carroll, Eugene Thelen and wife Kay of Ankeny, Sylvester Thelen and wife Kay of Templeton, Ralph Thelen of Davenport, Norbert Thelen and wife Virginia of Anita, and Lawrence Thelen and wife Cecelia of Vail; and sisters-in-law, Florence Thelen of Atlantic, Clara Hoffman of Carroll, Ida Hoffmann of Carroll, Mary Theresa Hoffmann of Arcadia, and Marilyn Hoffman of Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hoffman, in April 1971; a daughter, Janice Marie Hoffman, in August 1967; her parents; brothers, Victor and Melvin Thelen and sister, Dorothy Thelen, all in infancy; a sister, Linda Hoffmann; brother, Gerald Thelen; sisters-in-law, Marleen Thelen, Donna Thelen, and Mavis Thelen; and brothers-in-law, Walter Hoffman, Ralph Hoffmann, Marvin Hoffmann, and Paul Hoffman.
