Marian Grossman, age 84, of Carroll, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, May 25, 2010, at Sunnybrook of Carroll Assisted Living.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Pleasant Ridge Community Church south of Glidden, Iowa. Officiating will be Pastor David Schaal of the Carroll First Assembly Church. The eulogy will be delivered by Marian’s sons, Mike and Mark Grossman. Marian’s daughter, Mickey Snyder will read “A Little Parable For Mothers”. Music will be provided by Darrin Kozak and Marian’s children. Honorary Pallbearers will be Grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 P.M. Friday. There will be a Prayer Service at 7 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Officiating at the prayer service will be Pastor David Schaal, Father Timothy Johnson, and Father John Gerald with music provided by Bill Benson. Visitation will resume at 9 A.M. Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Community Church.
Marian was born on March 12, 1926, at Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Ambrose and Margaret (Brincks) Klocke. She attended St. Joseph School in Dedham and received her G.E.D. Diploma in 1970. Marian and Louis B. Grossman were united in marriage on February 11, 1947, at St. Joseph Church in Dedham. The couple farmed near Willey until 1964 when the family moved to Carroll. Marian had been employed by Stanley Home Products, Singer Sewing Center, Community Jewelers, and managed Orchard View in Carroll for twelve years. While working Marian dedicated her life to caring for her family, was an excellent seamstress, and spent hours sewing for her family. She was a member of Carroll First Assembly Church, Bible Study Groups, and was an R.S.V.P. volunteer. Marian dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed playing cards and board games.
Marian is survived by her children, Lou Ann Mowrey and husband Ron of Carroll, Gary Grossman of Chicago, Ill., Mary “Mickey” Snyder and husband Barry of Glidden, Mark Grossman and wife Lynne of Waukee, Joan Halbur and husband Roger of Carroll, Joyce “Fred” Wittrock and husband Jim of Carroll, John Grossman and wife Joan of Carroll, Betty Appleby and husband Mark of Ft. Myers, Florida, Joe Grossman and wife Sue of Albert Lea, Minn., Mike Grossman and wife Barb of Windsor Heights, and Lori Christoffersen of Carroll; a son-in-law, Jim Bayliss and wife Linda of Eden Prairie, Minn.; her grandchildren, Jerry Mowrey, Bob Mowrey, Dusty Stork, Mandy Halbur, Bobbie Sue Onken, Sarah Mowrey, Trisha Biederman, Jeff Grossman, Torrey Grossman, Garrett Grossman, Trent Grossman, Heidi Ball, Brandy Snyder, Julie Davis, Chris Bayliss, Carrie Cavazos, Jason Grossman, Joe Grossman, Ben Halbur, John Halbur, Leann Halbur, Tony Wittrock, Tina Hacker, Jennifer Poggio, Mike Grossman, Nick Grossman, Ashton Appleby, Aaron Appleby, Louie Grossman, Luke Grossman, Emma Grossman, Anna Grossman, Megan Grossman, Nate Grossman, Zach Grossman, Jacob Christoffersen, and Rachel Christoffersen; twenty-five great grandchildren; her siblings, Lawrence Klocke and wife Beth of Carroll, Alvin Klocke and wife Loanna of Austin, Minn., Joan Hoffmeier of Council Bluffs, Betty LaVan and husband Nick of Dresser, Wisc., Lois Sellers and husband Bob of Indianapolis, Ind., Dian Sonderman and husband George of Earling, and Carlene Goecke and husband Larry of Clermont, Florida; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold Leiting of Carroll, Norbert Sturm of Carroll, Jack Irlmeier of Kearney, Nebr., Marie Thielen of Carroll, Bob and Lorena Grossman of Carroll, Freda and Joe Tigges of Dedham, Imelda and Meryl Kerkhoff of Manning, Delores and Jim Greenwood of Cottage Grove, Minn., Marilyn and Wayne Heithoff of Urbandale, and Edward Tigges of Willey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Grossman, on February 25, 2010; a daughter, Donna Bayliss, in 1983; her parents; a great grandson, Jasper Dopheide; sisters, Delores Leiting, Marjorie Sturm, and Vernie Irlmeier; her parents-in-law, Ben and Mary Grossman; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Thielen, Charles and Helen Thielen, Dale Hoffmeier, and Rita Tigges.
