Marie Riesberg, age 91, of Carroll, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, March 23, 2011, at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Holy Angels Church in Roselle. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Gift Bearers will be Nathanael, Jakob, and Mikhel Bunge. Eucharistic Minister will be Marie’s daughters, Rosemary Riesberg and Marilyn Steinkamp. Casket Bearers will be Mick Riesberg, C.J. Riesberg, Doug Steinkamp, Cody Klunder, Sierra Riesberg, Tam Bunge, and Lindsay Umstatted. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m., Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m., followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by the parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church in Marie’s name.
Born on April 1, 1919 at Willey, Iowa, Marie was the daughter of George and Theresia (Brincks) Berger. She grew up on the family farm in Willey and received her education at St. Mary’s School in Willey. On June 5, 1946 she was married to William J. Riesberg at St. Mary’s Church in Willey by Fr. H.J. Dries. The Riesbergs spent their entire married life on the family farm two miles southeast of Roselle. Marie moved to Carroll shortly after her husband’s death in 1996. Marie was currently a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. As a lifetime member of Holy Angels Parish in Roselle, Marie took great pride in being a member of the Holy Angels Choir. Marie grew up in a very musical family and passed that love and talent for music on to her children.
Survivors include her son, Jim Riesberg of Ankeny; two daughters: Marilyn Steinkamp of Carroll, and Rosemary Riesberg of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; three sisters: Leona Seidl of Coon Rapids, Frances Meiners and her husband Albert of Coon Rapids, and Bernice Bluml and her husband Elmer of Carroll; one brother, Edmund Berger and his wife LaVonne of Lidderdale; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Berger of Lohrville, Virginia Berger of Carroll, Ella Weitl of Templeton, Hilda Heider of Humboldt, and Clara Langel of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William in March, 1996; three brothers: Joe, Al and Ray Berger; one sister, Lucille Berger; and her granddaughter, Jose Riesberg Klunder.
