Phyllis Schrad, age 87, of Carroll, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Mass Servers will be: Nolan Schultes, Jessica Schultes, and Danielle Schultes. Lector for the funeral mass will be Dick Schrad. Gift Bearers will be Jennifer Boyance and Jill Janson. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Sherry Henrich, Sue Schrad, and Ray Pille. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Phyllis’ children. Casket Bearers will be Phyllis’ grandsons: Greg Felten, Scott Cusick, Nick Sias, Mike Sias, Jay Schrad, Justin Schrad, Ben Pille, and Dan Pille. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of America will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian Wake Service by St. Lawrence Parish at 6:30 p.m.
Born on October 13, 1923 at Carroll, Iowa, Phyllis was the daughter of Fred and Anna (Vorsten) Mosman. She grew up in the Carroll community and graduated from St. Angela Academy. She was married to Earl Schrad on April 11, 1944 in Compton, California. The couple lived in California for a brief time before moving to an acreage near Maple River. They farmed near Maple River until the late fifties and then moved to Carroll. Phyllis was an accountant for various businesses throughout her lifetime. Most important to Phyllis was her family, her love and devotion to her family was evidenced as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a member of the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America, St. Lawrence Parish, and Parish Ladies Guild.
Survivors include her children: Jan Sias of San Diego, CA, Jean Goodbar of Eugene, OR, Jim Schrad and his wife Jan of St. Hedwig, TX, Jerry Schrad and his wife Jeanne of Carroll, Joleen Schrad and friend Rush Abrams of San Diego, CA, Janelle Pille and her husband Joe of Sacramento, CA, and Jane Favela and her husband Lino of Prescott Valley, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Feramisco of San Diego, CA; two brothers: Bud Mosman of Carroll, and Bob (Carol) Mosman of Buena Park, CA; three sisters in-law: Sylvia Mosman of Costa Mesa, CA, Jane Mosman of Redding, CA, and Margaret Schrad of Fairfield Bay, AR, as well as many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl in January 1967; sisters: Sally Allen, Marilyn Leiting, and Chub Olberding; brothers: Jack and Raymond Mosman; brothers and sisters in infancy: Lucille, Maxine, Evelyn, Darwin, and Lowell Mosman; grandson, James Schrad; sister in-law, Donna Mosman; and brothers in-law: Boots Schrad, Vern Olberding, Melvin Leiting and Jim Feramisco.
